It has now been almost two years since TKA delivered the final and most crushing blow to Freestyle. Back then I had a feeling that if that album came out, it would be the end of freestyle. My feeling wasn't based on any logic, but more on wierd symbolism. It kind of trips me out that I was right. Ever since then, there has been almost nothing as far as new releases by other artists(full length and new compilations). Kind of like the TKA Forever album made freestyle lose its will to live. Up until 2001, freestyle was definitely hurting, but there were new compilations coming out all the time. They might not have sold that much, but the fact was that they were there. In the last year and a half there has been some new freestyle made, but very little of it has been released. I know it's not fair to blame one group for the final death of a whole genre of music, but this is not just any group. They helped start it all. My disappointment in TKA is not bashing, if anything I'm giving them status so much to the point that there abandonment of Freestyle music made me question everything I had known. Are we crazy for viewing Freestyle as its own genre? Did Latin Hip Hop really ever even happen? Did I imagine the whole movement which took place in the barrios of NYC in the 80s and early 90s? When other artists went in different musical directions, I didn't take it so hard because I didn't consider those artists central to the concept of Freestyle. Also, those artists didn't try to convince us their new music was Freestyle when in fact it wasn't even close. Somehow I feel that if the TKA Forever album would have been even half way Freestyle, it would have helped the genre tremendously because before 2001 that's how much respect TKA commanded in the world of street music.

Mainsteam goes in cycles.

Is freestyle was truelly past its time, I don't think so. It has kept alive and changing, but just waiting its turn to resurface again. All it takes is a spark. Have faith. I do, and you might be suprised on what form the music will be evolving into.😉

I think to even put such a spot light on any group or given artist at a time when a genre such as Freestyle in all reality does not exist to the mass's is ludicrious. To put or even suggest that the downfall of Freestlye lays on the shoulders of one group or as I said artist is truly ridiculous when the state of Freestyle has for more then a while now been barely kept alive. To say TKA's forever album made Freestlye loose its will to live, is basically a slap to the face to every artist out there working to create new Freestyle that in all reality is not or will not be excepted by those such as yourself who put so much emphasis on what those greats once did, or have done for the industry as is now. There has been a great deal of Freestyle music made this year by very talented artist, that main stream radio stations wont play not because the music isnt good or that the artist arent talented but simply because Freestlye is no longer recognized as a genre aside from the hour played daily on a station or two. People put so much on these artist as if they are the ones who control this "Freestyle movement" but reality tells you different it does not matter how many Freestyle songs TKA or any other artist make Freestyle is not going to make the noise so many hope for. To even suggest that one group one artist has the power to do so, to make such an impact at a time when to the mass's the genre of Freestyle does not exist or is called by some other name then what it is, lets face it is ridiculous. To put that spotlight on every single Freestyle artist is ridiculous No matter what artist such as TKA, Safire, Nyasia, Coro, GL etc....... and all the great artist that took part in making Freestyle what it was and is in our hearts and memorys, will never loose there street credit, because they were the heart of the streets so nothing can ever take that from them not one non freestlye album or five non freestlye albums they made there marks they owe noone anything they gave us are memorys and payed there dues a long time ago. When people realize that times have changed that music cant go back and that the music industry is what it is today then maybe it will be easier to except the reality of it all Freestyle has its roots it has its beginning and sadly it is no longer the way it once was nor will it be and we can not blame the artist for that but the ever changing music industry and those that run it. Either except some change within Freestlye or remember it as it was or as you would like to, let it evolve so that it has a real chance or remain in memorys. If anything we should feel blessed and lucky that there are artist and producers out there producing Freestyle when the industry has shown over and over it has no real room for it aside from wat is already there or as I say was there, when its fan base is almost non exististant cuz oh yes many call them selves fans but we have learned on this site as well as many others that does not hold much to truth to it. Basically what i am saying is everyone is free to say and ask for what they think should be made, but to ask of artist who given there all for more of what in all reality you dont want is a waste of time. It is easy to point fingers to who has done what and who should do what but lets face it because times have change no matter how many Freestyle albums are released how many times will you hear it on the radio, I mean that is the only real way to make noise for a genre that is almost non exisitant. TKA was at the forefront of it all so were artist such as Safire and so many more (too many to name) and they are considered Icons, legends. Why is it we give such titles, simple they've done something great, made there mark, had an impact on a generation, gave life to a genre. From there they owe us nothing they have already gone down in history as the greats anything they give us now what ever it may be we should feel lucky to have. Stay blessed.

angie nice job..i cant even add to your thumder..just the last frrestyle show i was at ..at the roxy with latino mix where i met you briefly..confirmed for me that freestyle is far from dead..but thriving..and although tka is one of the if not "the" most sucessfull acts in freestyle..todays acts new artist rpresent the soul of freestyle in an different flavor..you cant compare run dmc with 50 cent or nas..different styles different era..new evolution..im tired of people putting responsibilty on tka to make the "comeback" as far as losing respect..TKA still commands all the respect in freestyle..just as mohammed ali still commands respect as "the greatest" to step on the canvas🙂

Sammmmmmmmmmmm babie I miss you too 😀 call me or I will call you me and Naya shall three way you lol. Naya ju know how I do, Kryss mama yes I had to come visit😉 Vickiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii lol Hey Siamese thanks.

Taezee hey sweetie, Feestyle is thriving in its own little world not the way so many so wish for. It is here but not o th level people expect or even suggest that an artist can accomplish all on there own. TKA will always be TKA the legends of Freestlye shit they have made there mark in history give them a dayum break already. It is always TKA to take the brunt and back lash from people of the state of Freestyle or how they can change Freestlye liek Tae said dffrent era new evolutions. Stay Blessed

Those so-called reasons that you brought up FreestyleHead, is the reason TKA wants nothing to do with this site...That's what gets me mad, people love to blame TKA for the downfall of freestyle...Freestyle is back with a vengeance, forget about the past, It's A NEW DAY for freestyle.....By the way great job ANGIE!!!

Hey Angie! Nice to see you come take a visit..

AND TKA IS FOREVER!!😉 WE LOVE HAVING TKA ON THIS SITE AND PEOPLE LIKE THIS IS WHO SCARE THEM AWAY!! TKA KEEP DOING YOUR THANG!!MUCH SUPPORT FROM YOUR FANS ALWAYS!FREESTYLE WILL LIVE FOR THE ONES THAT REALLY LOVE FREESTYLE!FREESTYLE WILL LIVE FOREVER PEROID!

TKA are grown, they know they have more supporters than Haters in here. hopefully they will take advantage of the new forum "VELVET ROOM" heidee! inform them!.lol

They are a major factor in this genre, and they are still standing, and they will continue to stand no matter what is said agains't them.

As far as the current state is concerned , it must be on a comeback trail because alot of people are inquiring about the artist they grew up on and are looking for more good old days. I myself had just walked into the new Puma store in Philly and they were playing FREESTYLE MUSIC. When I heard this , I forgot what I went into the store for. I asked the sales rep about the music and he said it was FREESTYLE MUSIC and asked me if I ever heard of it.lolouder

I undestand everyone is entitled to there own opinion, but when a statement such as the above is made it upsets me because no one artist can be held accountable for the downfall of a genre or the withering of a genre, Even in its day it struggled to get recognized. You can not hold TKA responsible for the lack of records other artist are or are not releasing and can you hoestly blame those artist that have not hell I don't shiat kudos to them for doing what there doing for themselves and not for what in the end will always be unsatisfactory to those many who call themselves fans . It boggles my mind how any one person could think, suggest that the reason Freestyle hasnt made a come back is because TKA has not released a Freestyle album how realistic is that weather they have or have not or will or wont, wont really change the industrys take or acknowledgement on we all know and love and call Freestyle. It has to evolve for it to make any kind of comeback entwine itself. We have had many of discussions and many given suggestions and even so many would still not be content if Freestyle was changed from its original hay day format to somthing with a lil new added flava. TKA is not responsible for the lack of freestyle played on the radio or for the lack of albums released by other artist. TKA doesnt need to be given status they have surpassed all that and have long ago been recognized for the legends they are. No one peron, thing, artist should ever dictate how you view what you once knew, remember,or lived etc...... In giving something that much power I would have to say is almost sad. Just stating what I beieve as others have. Hey Freestylefreak thanks. HI Patty thank you mama.

P.S. Now ya see I havent been on this site topost in ages t took this post to get me to post up again lol much love to all sta blessed.

people cant go on blaming TKA for abandoning freestyle. The fans did, way back in 1992. Sure, there are die-hards like us and there are people that STILL listen from time to time but the whole idea for them to keep going on is almost impossible. There werent enough beats to keep it going and frankly, how many times can they sing about a woman breaking thier heart or cheating on them? They had to move on. All groups do it. from Aerosmith to the Beastie Boys. No one hates those groups for moving out of the realms that made them famous. I thought thier last album was great. Yes,I wanted some freestyle tunes but for me....I love to have a little variety with what I listen to.

I dont think TKA hates this site. perhaps a few select members, BUT NOT THE ENTIRE SITE. K7 even said it before that "this is home". We have to reach out furthur then the sites with our music. change the beats, chords, lyrics......then we might have a chance. Make it sound like "TODAY", not "20 YEARS AGO".

I, one, can vouch that Freestyle has died down in a big way. It is so hard to find that I have about given up. I hate to say this, but it seems that I can only found certain songs by downloading them. I am all for supporting the artists but how can you when you can't even find the music to buy. When I have seen some releases online the prices are alot more than what they would be in a store. Then I read about how most tracks may be non-Freestyle if a full-length and that discourages me. I also am so tired of the mixed Freestyle CDs out there. I want the whole song, not a mixed in song. I can do that myself. I don't really come on here anymore just because the slew of releases are minimal. Alot of good stuff was coming from Europe but try to order from over there. Shipping and handling is outrageous. Not even Chicago carries any new Freestyle anymore and hasn't for a about 3 years....maybe. Sometimes you can find releases, whether CD Maxi single or compilation at Tower Records but that is rare anymore. I wish that this site would make it easier for a person to order/buy Freestyle. I had mentioned a list before but wonder if that will happen. I hope it does. I really want the new Nyasia single but I don't know if it is just a single or CD maxi single. I will keep my hopes up in that I will see more Freestyle releases in the future.

I think a freestyle store as a part of this site would be awesome idea. A nice place for Established and New comers have their material sold.
