Cover Songs

What would be a hot Freestyle song to cover? I'm trying to think up some good songs that I may consider covering. I don't want something too obvious but something that you think would sound hot with a little update. I'd more than likely be looking for a song from a male singer.

Also, what is everyone's opinion on covers? I've seen some pretty hateful responses to certain artists doing other people songs. Is it something that a lot of you look down upon?

One last thing... 🙂 do any of you industry professionals know what type of procedure is required for clearance to release a cover? I know it takes permission but how do you get it? How much is it usually?

If there's one thing freestyle needs, it's more covers. :rolleyes

Honestly, I think if you record a cover song people will be less likely to take you seriously as an artist. (or at least I will)

What freestyle needs is creativity and originality, not recycling. :lame

Different view

I guess I see it differently. I am already working on originals. But I love to see at least one cover... one interpretation on an album. Think Mariah Carey... "Against All Odds", "Without You", etc... I personally love that. That's all I meant. If there was one song, what would it be? 🙂

I guess I shouldn't have mentioned Mariah Carey on this Freestyle board... 🙂 Oops. But songs like Sweet Sensation's "Love Child", Dana Rayne "Object Of My Desire", etc... I think cover songs are hot if you can make them your own. I'm sorry if cover songs offend anyone. I do somewhat understand what you're saying though, Gornicevo. I've heard some crappy, unoriginal Freestyle covers. I guess I can name more of those than the good ones. 🙁
