i was wondering what peeps thought about freestyle cover songs. i like Eyra gail's song "heaven". but in general, are they a good thing or a bad thing? name some other ones coz i know there out there i just cant think of any at the moment, haha.

ya know what I mean? like a song that was done before like another artist. like the one "I just died in your arms tonight" was originally done by the Cutting crew, and a freestyle singer re-did it. you know, like a re-make.🙂

How Could You Have The Heart--The Girls Club/Noel
Can't We Try --2 Freestlye remakes I know of by Collage with Rockell and Denine
We Can Work It Out--Leather and Lace
Love Child--Sweet Sensation
Love Of A Lifetime--Collage
Gonna Get Over You--Cynthia
Mandolay--Latin Rascals

Then you got the Freestlye remakes of Freestyle songs

Collage and Aby from TKA teamed up and remade One Way Love
Prestige also did a remake of One Way Love, as well as Give Your Love To Me
Rockell and Collage remade Dreamboy/Dreamgirl
Denine did Tears Shed
Linear did Tolga's Sending All My Love
Pajama Party remade Over And Over

Phil Anthony remade Air Supply's "All Out Of Love". I think Phil did a great job!

Randi (FreestyleGal)

A good thing. Because if they feel they want to do it...then do it. Music is a beautiful element in this world. Sure...a few may make the song crappier than ever but you know what? Because a few didnt fair well doesn't mean you stop that game. Bad ones shouldn't give cover songs a bad rap lol

I like cover songs. They are great if they're done right. And kewl if an artist does a couple an album. But if most of what you do or produce are cover songs, that's just plain lack of creativity and that's not kewl. I don't think a cover song should be your debut though. Your first cut, you should at least try to make an original song!

Some good freestyle covers:

1. Safire/Cynthia "Can You Stand The Rain" (New Edition) (A freestyle milestone! Three legends collaborate on one track. This is THE best dance cover i've heard!)
2. Lil' Jon "Play At Your Own Risk" (Planet Patrol)
3. Corina "Summertime, Summertime" (Nocera)
4. Lisa Lisa/Cover Girls "I Need your Lovin'" (Teena Marie) (Both did a great job!)
5. India "Dancing On The fire" (Jellybean) (Can't touch the original though!)

also:

Lisette Melendez "I Like What Your Doing To Me" (Young & Company) (Straight up old skool!)
Cynthia "Break Up To Make Up" (Stylistics)
Cover Girls "Wishing On A Star" (Rose Royce)

right, right.. yo, some of those songs i forgot about! some of them are tight but then again some just plain suck! so i guess the jury's still out, huh? lol

Nice comments, though. thanks!

I think there are only few remakes that are better then the original song.
Here are some Freestyle covers of Freestyle songs:

Rockell with "In A Dream", org. by Jossette (both songs great!!)

Collage covered their own song "Diana" but named it "Suzana" (I think it was together with lil suzy) and of course Johnny O covered this song, too, but I think you all now that ;-D

Irene with "Real Love", org. by Lil Suzy

Irene also covered "Only In My Dreams", org. by Laura and I think "Hold Me Now And Forever" but I can't remember the org. artist

Collage and Denine did "All Cried Out", org. by LisaLisa

so far

If I remember correctly Artie Rodriguez did a cover on "You'll never find" I think it was that .... One of those Las Vegas numbers..... He's always been a trip

safire did a cover of gloria gaynor's "i will survive" for the she-devil soundtrack. it was a pretty good remake, it was recorded in paisly park studios (prince studio).

she also did a cover of the xmas classic "joy to the world" for a christmas message compilation that included brian mcknight, vanessa williams and many others. she sang with a gospal group backing her up.
