Aside from East side Story, could Freestyle ever be the catalyst for a full-on Broadway story?

On Broadway, there's been Rock "Tommy"/"Jesus Christ"
Disco "Copacabana"/"Mamma Mia"
Pop "Movin' Out"
and even country "Always Patsy Cline"

Freestyle is perfect for Broadway with its emotive lyrics and over-the-top music. Imagine "Sincerely Yours" and "Where Does That Leave Love" as a showstoppers and "Could This Be Love" and "I Still Believe" as centerpieces.

Sounds like a good Idea me like

Of course. The story of how freestyle was never good enough for anybody would ad that necessary theme of tragedy.

I think somebody with money just needs to invest in it and not call it "Freestyle". Call it something else. Music from the 80's and 90's and hey "you never know". It's like lotto! We're never going to know unless someone takes the RISK!

Again if I had the money, I WOULD DO IT!!!! 😉

Great idea!

The problem is that most people are not familiar with freestyle whereas everyone knows what disco and country are. A lot of Broadway musicals dont succeed these days as it is...especially with tickets costing what they do. So while it sounds like a good idea to us freestyle fans, I dont think it could ever happen.

I see it happening, but not necessarily on Broadway. Off Broadway- it's a possibility. Both musicals for Hector Lavoe and La Lupe were off-Broadway productions and they were a success- but within the Latin community and for those people interested in Latin music.

Maybe a few of us should get together and figure something out....but we would need sponsors because something like this requires serious money.

Exactly...........Off Broadway. 🙂 Excellent Carlito!

i'd like to see this happen. of course however i'm picturing a broadway rendition of any freestyle song, and that would mean the beat & everything else would be slaughtered. i'm just getting the image in my head now of a "come into my arms" number with a girl that spoils the song because she doesn't even sing like judy (cause nobody can anyway). and since typical singers can't recreate classics doen by freestyle singers with godly voices, i dont think it would work out too well.
