Alright, here is a thread for any constructive criticism to be offered to the new school artists. Post actual constructive criticism, not just any pure hate thread.
So of the artists I have heard, here are my comments:
Ayna - Decent voice, some ok beats. Nothing spectacular though in terms of the hooks. Maybe a few months/years from now we'll hear a great catchy song. In summary, decent voice/ok beats, nothing at a hit level yet, so 2 areas that need work.
Miles Petty - Also an ok voice, beats are pretty good, also suffers from not having anything at a professional level ready for a "hit." But some potential here too possibly down the road.
Jessica Marie - Awesome voice!!! Decent beats too. But not always together at the same time on the same song. A nicely produced song from her producers along with a well written song that works with the song, and she has a potential hit. LOTS of potential here with this artist.
Caleb B- Sick ass beats!!! Amazing production on most of the album. Great hooks! Voice needs some work, sounds better on some songs than others. If he can work on his singing a little, with those beats, look out, potential for some hits here!
Ashley- So-so voice, beats are kind of tame, sounds a bit dated. A well written song with a few remixes from different producers might get something out there that's a little better.
Angelino- One the ones who probably needs the most work. Beats sound old and dated, voice needs work and a good hook needs to be created when making the song. It almost sounds like two different aspects of the song- the beats and the lyrics were done in completely different places and then just thrown together and don't match. May need to find a professional producer to help guide the creation of the song and make the beats.
Six2night- Only heard one song from her, so not much to base judgement on. But from what I did hear: sick-ass beats on her song!!! Like radio quality production on that song/hook/melody. Voice needs work though. Sounds ok on the chorus but maybe a little too much on the effects. As she starts singing the song her voice sounds rough and doesn't sound comfortable singing. Needs some more confidence shining trough. But if she works on her singing, along with the same producers, she's got some potential too!
Angel Moreno- same thing as some of the above, nothing that is hit material. Nothing spectacular. Some better hooks and melodies needed.
So most of the artists suffer from a couple of things, either some work on their voice needed or the production/melodies/hooks in the songs themselves need more time spent on them to create something catchy and that will draw a listener in. Hard to put into words, but we need hits, not filler tracks. Some of the above artists are capable of producing a hit type song like Caleb B and Six2night.
Now I've saved the most polished for last-
One of the newest newcomers- Mari P- listen to infamous lover, that's all I've got to say. Great voice, great production, little or no improvement needed here (although I haven't heard many other songs from her) and "the truth" was so so, not really a hit, but she has already shown she can create a hit level song with "infamous lover", radio is just not willing to play dance music now.
Alvendia- nice voice. Some great production work on some songs, so-so on others. Sounds like on a professional level, except some of those, what appear to be filler tracks. Daydreaming, Feel It In The Air, are professional level songs.
Sharyn Maceren- Another artist who needs no work. Great voice and it seems every song she seems has hit material written all over it. Again radio just isn't doing dance these days.
Christina Marie- Incredible voice, great hooks, production. Professional level work here as well. Several songs are hit material.
So in most cases (except Christina, Sharyn, Mari P, and to some extent Alvendia), the artists either need to find either a professional level producer to create a full, smooth flowing song, or some voice work with a vocal coach.
I'm sure I forgot some artists, when I remember I'll come back to this thread.
But what other particular constructive criticism/opinions are out there from others?
