Alright, here is a thread for any constructive criticism to be offered to the new school artists. Post actual constructive criticism, not just any pure hate thread.
So of the artists I have heard, here are my comments:

Ayna - Decent voice, some ok beats. Nothing spectacular though in terms of the hooks. Maybe a few months/years from now we'll hear a great catchy song. In summary, decent voice/ok beats, nothing at a hit level yet, so 2 areas that need work.

Miles Petty - Also an ok voice, beats are pretty good, also suffers from not having anything at a professional level ready for a "hit." But some potential here too possibly down the road.

Jessica Marie - Awesome voice!!! Decent beats too. But not always together at the same time on the same song. A nicely produced song from her producers along with a well written song that works with the song, and she has a potential hit. LOTS of potential here with this artist.

Caleb B- Sick ass beats!!! Amazing production on most of the album. Great hooks! Voice needs some work, sounds better on some songs than others. If he can work on his singing a little, with those beats, look out, potential for some hits here!

Ashley- So-so voice, beats are kind of tame, sounds a bit dated. A well written song with a few remixes from different producers might get something out there that's a little better.

Angelino- One the ones who probably needs the most work. Beats sound old and dated, voice needs work and a good hook needs to be created when making the song. It almost sounds like two different aspects of the song- the beats and the lyrics were done in completely different places and then just thrown together and don't match. May need to find a professional producer to help guide the creation of the song and make the beats.

Six2night- Only heard one song from her, so not much to base judgement on. But from what I did hear: sick-ass beats on her song!!! Like radio quality production on that song/hook/melody. Voice needs work though. Sounds ok on the chorus but maybe a little too much on the effects. As she starts singing the song her voice sounds rough and doesn't sound comfortable singing. Needs some more confidence shining trough. But if she works on her singing, along with the same producers, she's got some potential too!

Angel Moreno- same thing as some of the above, nothing that is hit material. Nothing spectacular. Some better hooks and melodies needed.

So most of the artists suffer from a couple of things, either some work on their voice needed or the production/melodies/hooks in the songs themselves need more time spent on them to create something catchy and that will draw a listener in. Hard to put into words, but we need hits, not filler tracks. Some of the above artists are capable of producing a hit type song like Caleb B and Six2night.

Now I've saved the most polished for last-

One of the newest newcomers- Mari P- listen to infamous lover, that's all I've got to say. Great voice, great production, little or no improvement needed here (although I haven't heard many other songs from her) and "the truth" was so so, not really a hit, but she has already shown she can create a hit level song with "infamous lover", radio is just not willing to play dance music now.

Alvendia- nice voice. Some great production work on some songs, so-so on others. Sounds like on a professional level, except some of those, what appear to be filler tracks. Daydreaming, Feel It In The Air, are professional level songs.

Sharyn Maceren- Another artist who needs no work. Great voice and it seems every song she seems has hit material written all over it. Again radio just isn't doing dance these days.

Christina Marie- Incredible voice, great hooks, production. Professional level work here as well. Several songs are hit material.

So in most cases (except Christina, Sharyn, Mari P, and to some extent Alvendia), the artists either need to find either a professional level producer to create a full, smooth flowing song, or some voice work with a vocal coach.

I'm sure I forgot some artists, when I remember I'll come back to this thread.
But what other particular constructive criticism/opinions are out there from others?

Good input. Here is what I think along with a couple of friends who I forced to listen to this new music lol

1.Jessica Marie-The best vocal artist of all who are listed on this site.I agree that the production is lacking and this is stopping her from having a national hit in th US.

2.Ayna-weak vocals,so so productions...nothing spetacular

3.Miles Petty-Reminds me of Daniel Bedingfield ,which could be a good thing but his planet rock beats are one in a million.Unless that is change...no one will notice.

4.Caleb B-The name just makes you think of Stevie B or his cousin perhaps.Except that the lyrics are much simpler and high schoolish (under the moon).I hear that Cheez Whiz is looking for a new spokesperson so you never know!

5. Ashley-Her vocals are aiight! And thats about it.Yet,she has that NY/east coast vibe to her, and her songs keep outdoing the last. She can be a one hit wonder with the right material. After that is back to the underground.

6. Nick Colon-Boy can sing without a doubt and his freestyle sound had that trancy underground feel that freestyle needs to compete in dance music today.Where is he anyway?

7.Nu Image...more than just freestyle website stars, their music has alot of bounce to the ounce. If you think thats corny just think of the NUI saying "crackin".Nevetheless, they are on top of this freestyle game but can they sell with their new cd???

Whatever sells cd's is the key so no argument here from me.Maybe you should come out in a cheerleader's outfit to further reach that high school crowd.

As for me,I prefer my freestyle straight up with no chaser!

Don't get me wrong because I like Ashley's music alot. I can see her having a big freestyle hit like Lisette did.Yet, never duplicating that hit again for whatever reason.

I can understand constructive criticism...but when it's turned to something as ridiculing a member in this case an artist online; thats off base and on a personal level thats uncalled for!

I will have a talk with the big boys to see that this thread does not progress and escalate because we cannot accept this on Clubfreestyle!

Well back to CONSTRUCTIVE criticism lol -

Look, as I have said before, I respect all the people on this board who love music and are trying to do their best. The one thing I have to say is that if someone really wants to be a singer the best thing they could do for themselves is invest in some serious voice lessons. The vocal cords are a muscle and you need to work them out to strengthen them to be able to use them without straining and to learn how to breathe properly when you sing. You can't become Arnold Schwarzenegger overnight without working out your muscles, and it is the same thing for the vocal cord muscle - you can't become a great singer without giving your voice some good training. Even the best singers in the music industry continue to train and exercise their vocals to maintain their instrument.

Private vocal lessons can be extremely expensive BUT you can just go to Amazon.com and purchase a great book for $12.95 that comes with an audio CD with vocal exercises and a full vocal lesson that you can do wherever you are, whenever you want to (if you get the cheaper used version from Amazon Sellers be careful to make sure and check that it comes with the CD - that is the most important part and some of the used sellers say "no cd!"). The book is called "You Can Sing!" by Jerald B. Stone and I have this book & CD myself and it is a very good vocal workout. I studied for years with an amazing private vocal coach (Rona Leslie, who also coached Alisha and Faith Evans)and this book is as good as getting a private one on one session with a great teacher. The link is below for anyone who is interested:

That sh*t was uncalled for NIGHTRAYN. I would like to see your ass get on stage and tried to sing in front of people let along have the smarts to come up with a song.

I'm telling you all, these ****ers are playing as DOUBLE roles throughout this site to start shit and boost their own egos.

Suggestion... since most of these artists STILL suck according to this post, just leave FREESTYLE and go find music that you really like.

So, you say you want your freestyle straight up, but you will make a "high school" remark like that.

If you want to be adult and make constructive criticisms, then go for it. But keep your stupid insults off the thread.

In the other threads about new school, the people who weren't fans, were told not to make general statements, to be specific.

The thread started off ok, but it's starting to turn. Don't let that happen.

Make your statements like adults, and keep them positive as possible. The key to making a critique is to start with positive comments, listing what you like, and then commenting on NOT what SUCKS, but what could be improved.

Just keep in mind, what is being said about new school acts, could also be said about some old school acts as well.

You are right Damian.

I'm no singer, and never had lessons. However, for a while, a few years ago, my friends and I were going to a karaoke bar every Wednesday night for 2-3 years.

While I'm not suggesting that Karaoke is a legit way to vocally train, I can say I saw a difference in the way my voice sounded from when I first tried to sing, to now.

I'm still no singer, but the weekly exercise of it definitely affected the way I sang, and how I sounded.

Thanks for the input and critiscm It well taken.

If theyre are any producers or writers who want to help me make My " One Hit Wonder" contact me @ ashleyruscito@yahoo.com.

Lets see who steps up to the plate.

Bro, I haven't read through all of the threads, but no one should be disrespected for who they are as a person. Man if we were in the business to make people "feel" good, we would be in for a long ride. People are posting there feelings about the music not the person, and if people are taking shots at the artist character and there person, than there is a valid point to closing threads. Nobody should take shots at someones character that is flat out wrong...I hope I never do it and if I do, I would want to be called out.

My wife and I are avid listeners of freestyle, we have been listening to freestyle for 20 years now. We have no personal friendships with any freestyle artist or anyone here on clubfreestyle. Our opinions are just that..an opinion. It would be wrong for us to say that "you guys rock" keep up the good job if it is not warranted. I think you respect the views of those that are not happy with what we are hearing and understand our passion for the music and its success. I believe in the long run its going to payoff for the New School.

God bless Bro

Simon

Okay... I tend to come by the site once every two weeks or so just because the hate is hard to stomach for me. I will say that this thread is a positive step though. Constructive criticism is great and I appreciate it.

I think I only have a few song clips posted on my site. I have not put up all my music and I kept the clips that are online short and in low-quality. I can't put out a song sounding like it was made in 1985. I am trying my best to stay away from that even though I know that it would please a good deal of people on this site. I have to be honest... finding that "new sound" is very difficult. I also know that I didn't really flex any vocal muscle on those early songs. That is something I know I need to change. Thank you for the comments though, ya'll. (By the way... the "Planet Rock" reference perplexed me, but the Daniel Bedingfield reference is okay by me!)

Anyway. I would love to hear some critiques from people who get to hear a whole song of mine and who have an ear for something new, so... I'm going to offer (for a limited time) a free full download of my new single "Let It Go" (featuring Corina). It's not quite mastered yet, but I think there's enough to give a review. I would appreciate any comments. Just send me a private message on this site and give me at least a few days to get back to you. (I'll post this in a seperate thread also.)

(FYI... there's an interpolation of a classic Freestyle song in "Let It Go". I have yet to get it cleared but since I'm not selling this song yet in ANY WAY, I'm okay. I know you all will catch it on the break. It's a way of paying homage to some of my heroes.)
