Ok, black people (African-Americans) don't call themselves 'niggers'. They call themselves 'niggas', but still, i believe they would find it offensive if someone of another race called them like that. Likewise, although white people (Euro-Americans) may call themselves "white trash", i know they would get offended if someone of another race, referred to them in that way.

verdad

yeah, U're right... probably if you would say to the Lordz of Brooklyn "you guys are pure white trash", they would be rather mad atCha, altho they have a song out "White trash"... or if I would call some black guy "nigga" he'd probably kick my ass ... in the case of Chicano, the negative connotations of the word are i think no longer as present as in the case of "honkey" or "nigga" (BEV has no /r/ at the end of a word, so never mind how ya spell it).. you might still feel that
chicano is negative, but to many ppl it obviously isn't.
of course, the word as used by mexican americans themselves was a way of subverting the mainstream i think... and still is, probably...you probably won't like this article Rodriguez, Roberto. "Who Declared War on the Word Chicano?" http://members.aol.com/ometekpatl/4index.html

in any case, i think ppl have the right to call themselves "Latino" or "Chicano" even if some ppl don't like the terms, or say that they are mistaken. i had an argument with a guy on the cypress connection board, he argued that only people born in Latin American are real Latinos, and i argued that if ppl who DONT SPEAK SPANISH BORN IN THE US call themselves latinos it is their right to do so...

the n-word

i think U can't compare it to Chicano because most
black ppl will find the term nigga or n****r offensive, but i'm not so sure about the term Chicano... i mean, will most Mexican Americans see it as a negative term?
i don't think so...waddya think?

oh yeah and what i wanted to say: if a black guy calls another black guy nigga is something entirely difrnt from a white guy calling a black guy nigga.

Arturo!! I'm very sorry if what I wrote mislead you to believe that I only meant that Mexicans are "Indijenas", but the turth is that The word "CHICANO" does come of the "Tahuatl" peolpe who lived in Mexico!

Arturo, I'm only half Mexica, my mother is from Argentina, and has "Guarani" blood. I don't know what was the word that the Guaranis used, but I do know that they didn't use the word "Chicano", just becuzz its a Tahuatl word and Not a Guarani word.

Thats it bro, I never meant to lead you to believe that I was trying to say that all others where not Indijenas, We are all of the same race, but we didn't use the same words.

I don't know If you understand what I'm trying to explain, It was just that the term "CHICANO" came from "Teotiocan" and not anywhere else. If a Maya Indio would have met a Tlanuatl, the Tlanuatl word have thought to himself "He Is A Chicano" but cuuz he isn't white" At the same time the Mayan, wouldn't understand the words becuzz he didn't speak in the same tough.

I was an Oblanto Fransicano De Juan Diego. Many of you might not know, but Juan Diengo was a King, whos family had lost there power to the Tlanuatl's.

Well, I gotta go, this a very Fun, and log stores

I gotta go

Arturo, just thnk about this To Us people of No Color are "Gente Blanca", but to themselfs they are "White People" Get it??????????????????

gente blanca

pero Pee Gonzales, rapero hispano-belgo, dice "soy blanco and proud of mi barrio"... para ti, gente ke habla español no es blanca o Q?

well, what u wanted to say was probably that it all depends on Point of View. For many EuroAmericans, Chicanos are Mexican Americans, while many Mexican Americans call themselves just mexican or chicano...

M:G is mexican, I think. Hey, I'm just trying to answer the original question. 🙂

that's cool... ya know, i noticed that on the compilation
LOW RIDER V (featuring such gems as "Mami El Negro",
"Never forget who you are", "Electric Kingdom" etc.)
there are also some freestyle tracks ("Get away" by Stephanie, "`They're playing our song" by Trinere) ...
great compilation i think. Anyway, is TRINERE actually pronounced as a spanish word?

That's what i said in my previous post...*LOL*

ndmatttopazzo...Although many people might not find it offensive, and might not mind if they are referred to as "chicanos", that is their prerogative. However,i personally do think that the word "Chicano" has negative connotations, and i would find it offensive if anyone referred to me as one...the same goes for the word "hispanic".

Also, i wanted to point out the correct usage of the word is "Belga" and not "Belgo"...it does not matter wether the subject is masculine or feminine...

Delicious D...you did not mislead me at all...but it seems that you have failed to understand what i am getting at...it's cool that the word "Chicano" comes from Tahuatl. I personally am not very fond of the term "Chicano" but if you're gonna use it, i don't think it's fair to say that only Mexicans born in the USA are Chicanos...if you are gonna refer to someone as a Chicano, then you should base it on their culture, and not base it on where they are born...that's all i was saying trying to point out...

One last thing i want to point out is to not get race confused with culture...they are 2 different things...yes it is possible for someone who is "white" to speak spanish...They would still be Latinos (culturally speaking) but they would be white (racially speaking)...such is the case of people from Spain...they are Latinos, but they are also white (European)... In Argentina, which is a South American nation...most people prefer to refer to themselves as "Europeans" rather than "Latinos" simply for the fact that a great majority of them are of Italian decent... I think they are Latinos, and yet white at the same time... For example lets take people from the Caribean (Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico, etc) There are many black people in those countries, and yet they speak spanish...They refer to themselves as "negros" and also as "latinos". Would you tell those people, no you are not a 'negro', you are a Latino? i think not...They are both.

>>>> OH YEAH, I won't call you that, then. OK?

Also, i wanted to point out the correct usage of the word is "Belga" and not "Belgo"...it does not matter wether the subject is masculine or feminine...

>>>> gracias; mi castellano es mu pobre...

>>>> yeah, exactly, i think you should base it on WHAT THEY WANT TO BE CALLED!

One last thing i want to point out is to not get race confused with culture...they are 2 different things...yes it is possible for someone who is "white" to speak spanish...

>>>> claro ke si...

They would still be Latinos (culturally speaking) but they would be white (racially speaking)...

>>>> hm, yeah, altho i think the concepts of white and black races, well, at least from a scientific pov it's rather misleading....

such is the case of people from Spain...they are Latinos, but they are also white (European)...

>>>> well, maybe that's just European usage, but i thought Latinos were basically only people from the Americas speaking spanish or with some spanish-language background... dn...

In Argentina, which is a South American nation...most people prefer to refer to themselves as "Europeans" rather than "Latinos" simply for the fact that a great majority of them are of Italian decent...

>>>> oh well. not so sure about that. white argentinian rapper DJ Kun even refers to Europeans as "Europingüinos" on his track "Ponle sabor"....well, there are difrnt opinions about that i guess. This guy certainly calls himself latino...

I think they are Latinos, and yet white at the same time... For example lets take people from the Caribean (Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico, etc) There are many black people in those countries, and yet they speak spanish...They refer to themselves as "negros" and also as "latinos". >>>> yeah definitely. a lot of ppl make that mistake, claiming that e.g. cypress hill has both latino and black members (Tricia Rose). in fact, sen dog is both black AND latino, b real is mexican (and cuban?) and muggs is italian american.

peace.

*LOL*

LOL okay then!! we all agree!!!

I never meant to say that Just
"Mexican Americans" are Chicanos, I was just trying to explain where the word comes from, and what it means, that it! I wasn't trying to say "These People are, those are Not".

To Me, all peolpe with Indijena blood are "Chicanos", thats just the way I look at it! But I wasn't trying to express my own point of view, just the meaning of the words!!

Delicious,D

One more thing to add!, well many a few LOL

There are Indijena people in Argentina, I Know my Family comes from them! We come a people called the "Guarani" and in Tierra Del Fuego" there was a people called "Patagonia"

Yes, Sen Dog is Black & Latin, becuzz Black is a race, and Latin a culture, B Real is half Mexicano & Cubano!, both of Latin Culture, and DJ muggs is Italian, whom are also Latinos!

ha.. great news.. if Italians are Latinos, then I'm partly Latino... well, a small part anyway. but nevertheless.
oh yeah guaraní... i think this language is spoken even by white people in uruguay... which lead some sports reporters to think that the soccer players were using some sort of secret language...
BTW, i always thought La raza refers to the raza mexicana only. what do you think? well, ppl probably use this term difrntly, i guess

Yup Mexicans do use the word "Raza"...but it is used in different ways, and not just to refer to "race". I lived for a few years in La Colonia del Rio, in Tijuana...and there i learned to use the word "raza", but i learned to use it, when referring to young people...or when referring to a crowd...For example "habia un chingo de raza" means "there was a lot of people" or "there was a lot of young people"...

D...aren't the Guaranis from Paraguay? I believe that Guarani is also an official language there, along with Spanish...don't hold me accountable for that one though...*LOL*

As far as the Indigenous peoples of the Patagonia are concerned, i read that they were all killed off when the Europeans started settling La Tierra del Fuego.

Latino is a not real race, black is not a real race, white is not a real race however they are all the same race, the human race! All humans originated from Africa and evolved into latinos, evolved in blacks, evolved into whites however they are just subraces of the one huma race, asian is not a real race, white is not a real race, black is not a real race,Spanish/Latinos is not a real race,it is scientifically proven that all humans come from the same original human group in Africa,in other worlds blacks have whites genes in them, whites have blacks genes them, asianshave Latinos genes in them and Latinos have arabians genes in them,we are all one race the human race, scientists much smarter than us have proven this many times over and the bible and every major religions book on the planet states clearly that we are all one race the human race!GOD Bless,Omar 😉

I must agree.

Omar is right. We are all part of one race: The Human Race.
