Happy Halloween, everyone! I sincerely hope that all Clubfreestylers are doing well this evening. Here is what has been happening for the past couple of Friday mornings at WLUW (88.7 FM) in Chicago. Harv Roman's "Wake Up Dancing" airs from 6am to 9am Central time and is webcast on www.wluw.org .

On Friday, October 12th, 2001, Tony "Boom Boom" Badea's Freestyle Mix At Six was featured. One of Chicago's more prominent Freestyle mixers, Tony began mixing at the age of 12, started working with me in 1983 when he was just 14 years old and has had his mixes programmed on Chicago radio stations "B96", WGCI (107.5 FM), WJPC (950 AM), WCYC (90.5 FM), WCRX (88.1 FM), and WSBC (1240 AM). Tony won numerous DJ battles in the 80s and 90s and has spun at most of the major concert/dance party venues, including the Rosemont Horizon, The Aragon Ballroom, The Riviera Nightclub, Navy Pier Ballroom, and the Odeum Stadium. Tony released "Face The Music" on Sunset Records back in 1986, has provided remixes for many artists and most recently was a producer/artist for Chicago's Music Plant Records. His recent productions can be found on the compilation "Me Gusta Latin House" Volume Two on Pandisc Records. Tony is currently a webmaster and has taken a step back from mixing and producing music. He can be reached at tonybadea@tonybadea.com . Some of you have called and asked about Tony, so that's the scoop...

After Tony's mix, I played Marvin Gaye..."National Anthem"
Stephanie Bennett..."Never Too Late"
and a back to back Gillette atttack: "Fun Tonight" (on Jellybean Records) and "Short Short Man" (from the old SOS label). Gillette is a Chicago based artist who has worked with Charlie Babie and Manny Mohr to create some fun little ditties. After Gillette, I went into Clear Touch with "Surrender Your Love".

At 7am, I played Denise Lopez with the over 9 minute version of "Saying Sorry". Tim called with his Denise Lopez flashback. We spoke of her visits to Chicago and just how crazy/cool the lady is. After Denise, it was...

Melanie C..."I Turn To You"
Willie Valentin..."How I Love Thee"
Nyasia..."Now and Forever" and then the requests started rolling in:
Eileen Flores..."Touch Me With Your Heart" (for Tim)
Bethany..."End of The Game" (for Erika)
Gigi D'Agostino..."I'll Fly Away"
Ashley..."Quit All Those Games" (for Alexisana)

Who else plays so many requests? I thought so!
I ended the hour by playing one of my favorite Judy Torres cuts..."Every Little Lie" produced by Chris Barbosa!

At 8am, it was time to settle in for a Freestyle Flashback as we went back to 1992 for a celebrity conversation with Nyasia! During the half-hour interview segment, I played:
"True Love"..."Now and Forever"..."Who's Got Your Love" and "Take Me Away" which also featured vocals by George Anthony.

After the interview, we heard the edited version of Bad Boy Joe's Freestyle Megamix Volume Two...
Safire and Cynthia..."Can You Stand The Rain"
Manny..."Knight In Shining Armor" (from the Flipzide)
and Angela Garcia..."Tell Me Why" which fulfilled a previously made request.

Thanks to Tim, Marian (who got married, congrats), Mary (who requested Scandelle Us music), Paresh, Erika, and Ana for calling, posting, etc. You guys/girls make the show worth taking public transportation for...

Fast Forward to October 26th, 2001 (I was in Atlanta the Friday before-thanks Chris for filling in!)...

6am...Tony "Boom Boom" Badea's Mix At Six...
Marvin Gaye's "National Anthem" (until Osama is gone)!
Upfront..."Infactuation" (this killer cut is in the Tommy Boy Collection "Greatest Beats")
Coro..."Fallen Angel"
Shana (not Alicia Keys)..."Fallling"

At 7am...First Class..."My Sweet Rose"
LAW..."Missing Your Love" (by request)
Twist of Fate featuring Dia..."One and Only" (this song never got released, but I recently found it at home. Dia had done some work with Marisa Lopez and Fantasia before recording this project-it's not bad)...
Ashley..."The Only One"

At this point, I got a call from Abel, who wanted to hear "Angel Eyes" by Lime. I didn't happen to pack Lime in my CD case, so I played:
Viper All-Stars..."Babe, We're Gonna Love Tonight" (featuring Adam Marano, Collage, Denine and other Vipers. Not a great remake of an otherwise great song).

I then played Luis Damon..."Time and Time Again"
Bethaney..."End of the Game" (requested by Tim)
Nyasia..."True Love"
Eva..."Stone Cold"
and George Lamond..."Just In Time" The George tune was cool in that Ericka called to find out more about his new cuts. I told her about his "Greatest Hits and More" CD. Ring up another sale for Mr. Lamond!

At 8am, I played another in my series of Freestyle Flashback interviews. This time with Kayel, Mario, Carlos and Wilson. Individual, pre-K7 interviews with the men who became K7 and the Swing Kids. It truly was interesting. I played: K7..."Body Rock"
TKA..."One Way Love"... and TKA..."Maria".

After the interview, the last half-hour featured:
Ashley..."Quit All Those Games" (she checked in during the show-thanks)
Noel..."Silent Morning" (by request for keh)
Cynthia..."Endless Nights" (by request for the listener who recalled her appearance on Dance Party USA with Carlos and Wilson)
George Lamond..."Love's Contagious" (for Ashley)
Sweet Sensation..."Take It While It's Hot" (for Juan)

During the show, I do a bit of give and take on the phones and check Clubfreestyle for postings. I also do some "funny" bits and news updates, so it's more exciting than reading while you drive.

This week, Tim, Abel, keh, Juan, Ashley, Paresh and Ericka get my appreciation for checking in. It was a fun show with plenty of interaction.

Now you eyes can rest-for just a smidge...

'Til soon,
Harv Roman

Harv;

Hi ya , Listening from work in Ct .. Thankyou for being supportive of my Music.

Special shout out s to the entire Freesyle community ,fans and mario from 5 Starr, lamour and paresh from Chicago.

I d like to Hear Angel Mena Only you from the flipzide cd.

Yo, Joe...What's new?

Ms. Alexis...I'm sorry. I don't have that tune in my collection. If it wasn't for Ashley herself, I wouldn't even have gotten a hold of the Flipzide and Generation Nex compilations. The stores here in Chicago are real heel draggers when it comes to Freestyle music. I remember calling the Coconuts store and being told that they only ordered 2 copies of the Safire album..."so hurry!"

I imagine that I'll have a bit of trouble locating the TKA album, as well, but I'm persistant-like Avis, I'll try harder!

Thanks for listening-I hope that you all are enjoying me making a radio fool out of myself. As always, your comments and critiques are welcome. That way everyone can know what "Wake Up Dancing" is all about...good and bad.

Respectfully,
Harv Roman
