Sorry, but that attitude is exactly why Freestyle is a dying genre.

Should we be happy about new freestyle releases even if the singer is off key, the production is substandard, and the song uses the same cheesy beat as every other new freestyle song???

By supporting every new substandard release, we are just encouraging producers and record labels to keep putting out more crap. This is basically what has happened over the last 10 years.

Many new artists and producers believe we owe it to freestyle to support them. But, whatever happened to earning our respect?

id rather they release 2 radio worthy freestyle tracks then 200 piece of sh*t ones
 
I am the biggest advocate for quality freestyle. I can't tell you how pissed I was when the barrage of low quality garbage hit the stores. I've been back and forth about this issue for a long time. There are many others who feel the same way. They want quality freestyle; beats and melodies that aren't recycled.

This is really an interesting topic. Back in the day; quality freestyle came from d.j's who became editors, remixers and producers. (Omar Santana, Carlos Berrios, The Latin Rascals, Jellybean, MANTRONIK, Frankie Bones, Todd Terry, Mickey Garcia Elvin Molina and Tony Garcia.

By no means is this an end all be all list; and if I missed out on others it's not personal; these people created a hell of an impact and started out as club d.j's/radio d.j's and Professional editors as well as multi-editors and extreme editors. All styles were combined on these productions (bad ass mixing and super edit/extreme editing)
This wasn't just recycled beats with two to three verses and a chorus or two stuck in between. Alot of these songs psychologically impacted people in many different ways. The song and it's meaning, The dancers who liked the build ups to the break in the song. Those that liked to sing along to the chorus in the midst of the dance floor; the connection with the d.j in the booth who knew when to turn it down in order for the crowd to be heard singing. The edits, the edits, and the EDITS!!! I remember the lights in the club (strobe lights, disco ball, police siren) going into a frenzy when an edit mix was played.

Shit like this needs to be attacked from all angles to straighten out. As a D.j back in the day; you had to do feedback on all the records and had to make crucial decisions as to what would go on the playlist or d.j set for the evening. It wasn't personal. Once these d.j's went on to remixing, editing in the studios, or production, the d.j's who came behind them didn't care and either played the awful freestyle that flooded the market or had a helping hand in freestyle all but dissappear by just going into a dance/house r&b, hip hop format.

It begins with the d.j!!!! If he sucks and can't blend, a good song will never get good attention from the crowd. The d.j has to be creative too, ufcking with the lights, add effects, switch up to the dub with the edits, switch back, repeat or extend verses/break parts and use the acapella's along with the instrumentals too. Trust me; next year people are stepping up to the plate, There needs to be competition to seperate the good from the bad. The fans/listeners are going to benefit; if you don't like what you hear, absolutely do not buy it; wait for the quality songs that you like. Turn off the radio when you don't like what you're hearing.
In the end it's about the dollars; the labels will see what is not selling. The indie's/bedroom labels will lose the money they put forth.
We all have the right to quality freestyle. Thank God for the cd single and thank god for the .99 cent download. There's no use in buying an entire LP for one or two songs.
An extra special thank you to the underground DJ/Editors hittin the streets with cd-rs that rival the quality of song selection, mixing and multi editing that you find sitting in every store.

Be ready for the battle between Good and not so Good in 2004!!!!!

By the way, I'm not waiting for "Freestyle blockbuster"...but just for some excellent "Freestyle releases". As simple as that!

Personally, I have enough to waste my money in shitty comps & singles. :whistle
 
"Joée- Better Than You" (SPG Music/Dep Canada) is a prime example of broadcast quality freestyle from Canada; pleazing crossover radio, dance floors and the hardcore freestyle fans. New album "A Decade of dance" has the freestyle classics along with "Better Than You" and the new surprise blending INXS and Depeche Mode influences in freestyle "Precious Heart"; look it up!
 
I totally agree that Freestyle now a day need to bring the best it has on the line. Quality is what lacking in plethora of freestyle CDs that are coming out. Some of these CDs are not being well produce and there are only a few good songs while the price of CDs has sky rocketed. Likewise, I have respect for these artists and their hard work. Nor will I come down of them really hard because everyone of us is a human being.
 
I support the new freestyle artists and the singles they produce.

Now I can't say anything about good DJs or the "feeling" of hearing a classic freestyle song in the club. But I can say, atleast these artists are trying to keep the Freestyle flava alive. I know I'm going to be a Freestyle fan for life. No matter how much the Freestyle genre becomes forgotten. =D
 
I Understand, Trust Me! Amd Maybee I Was Too Durti Dur, I Mean Your Hard Earned Money Is Being Spent On Bunk Freestle, And Chances Are The Record Store Wont Give You A Refund. Ive Been There Too, It Sucks.(lol) No But Really-im Out Here Talking To Producers, Record Stores, And Even Known Freestyle Artists, And Im Workin On A Project As We Speak!!

I Want Great Freestyle As Much As Any One Here, But The Bottom Line Is This: Alot Of People Arnt Makin Freestyle Anymore-alot Of People Say Freestyle Had Its Day In The Sun, And Most Stores Want It Off The Shelves Cuzz It Aint Movin.

Anyone Out There Maikn The Effort To Create And Produce New Freestyle In This Day N Age-knowing That Freestyle Is In Its Darkest Hour, And The Album Wont Even Make Enough Money To Pay For The Publicity And Promotions-needs To Be Appriciated And Respected In Some Way Or Another.

the final reason why there is "no new good freestyle" coming out is because all the beats have been used and the stufff that's out is all the left over shit.
