I SEE BOOTLEGGIN IS WRONG BUT SHIT TO GO AFTER EVERY DJ IN AMERICA I DONT THINK WILL HAPPEN. I MEAN I THINK RIGHT NOW EMINEM AND DR DRE ARE THE PRIORITY THEY HAVE THERE HANDS FULL. SO HOW LONG DO YOU THINK IT WILL TAKE THEM TO SWEEP ACROSS AMERICA FOR A LATE 90'S SONG FROM CYNTHIA MUCH TO THINK ABOUT GUYS. I HEAR ALL THE ARGUEMENTS HERE BUT TO BE HONEST I BUY MIXX CDS AND LIKE THEM BETTER THEN THE LEGIT ONES FOR EXAMPLE BAD BOY JOES I MEAN IT WAS A GOOD MIXX IN ALL BUT FOR ONE DIDNT HAVETHAT MANY SONGS FOR TWO IT WAS ALL OLD SHIT. SO I CAN SEE WHY PEOPLE STILL MAKE THESE MIX CDS. BECAUSE THE LEGIT WAY IS JUST TO MUCH MONEY FOR THE AVERAGE JOE TO MAKE AND ID REALLY LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY UNITS JOE SOLD ACROSS THE NATION AND AFTER PROMOTION AND RADIO ADS HOW MUCH HE REALLY MADE IN THE END. I DONT THINK IT WAS MUCH BECAUSE THE CD WAS NOT TO MY LIKING BUT I RESPECT THE FACT THAT ITS LEGIT......

for everyone they'll get 5 more will pop-up, there are probally hundreds of Bassment DJS

Bod Boy Joe Vol 1 sold over 85,000 Units and is climing
every day. It's the #1 bought new mixed cd on the market.

*rocking back & forth saying I'LL NEVER TELL*...I have so many thoughts on all of this, but i can't tell becuz my mouth is still full of popcorn...this reply is for this thread and the *I'M NOT A BOOTLEGGER* thread

I love Freestyle music soo much that I like making compolations and sharing them with my friends and family. If not for me, they wouldn't have ever heard much of the new school material. Freestyle is pretty much off the radar, at least in my area...DE.

Much of the stuff you find in our crappy stores is the old school stuff which is great, but there's also alot of great new material that these stores seems to ignore. 😡

Many of the new Freestyle I get nowadays comes from the interent. Joe Schmoe doesn't buy from the internet.

All this bootlegging talk doesn't really bother me too much, I wasn't much of capitolist as a DJ anyway. I almost never sold any of my mixed tapes. Although for a brief time I offered a Freestyle Mix collection on a web-site a year ago. I mainly charged for the cost of the blank media, but an email from someone "in the business" turned me off on that deal...

I just said, screw it! My intentions were of only sharing the great music with those less fortunate to find some of the rare songs I offered. But thinking back to it, maybe it was wrong of me to sell these tapes...even though it was non-profit.

Mickey Garcia's tone seemed a bit heavy handed towards DJs in general and that kinda turned me off. I agree, the bootleggers with the factories and big operations should be dealt with with extereme prejudice, but DJs? Thats kinda going too far, I think. Unless a DJ is intentionally making massive copies and selling them for profit, there shouldn't be a problem.

Mickey did indicate the offering of FREE items wasn't a big deal, so he didn't come off completely bad to me. He actually seems like a great guy, but a little too vague in the extreme position he's taking on bootleggers.

Now, I don't claim to know much about the RIAA and the laws of bootlegging, so maybe I'm missing something.

I'm just speaking as a common person who loves Freestyle and has had some minor amatuer local DJing stints in the past.

Ok, I have been asking some people that are familiar with the IRAA and they said there is nothing to worry about. They said the IRAA wouldnt waste thier time with small label problems and they focus mainly on the big clients (MADONNA, PRINCE, MICHAEL JACKSON, ETC., ETC., ETC.)

Isn't that whole "unauthorized duplication prohibited" message supposed to be on the music? I just went through my micmacs and it's not on any of them....does that make them exempt from the law? I mean not that I would ever bootleg, cuz the mixes I make are for my personal enjoyment, but what about the rights of the consumer? My view is that I worked my ass off for the money that I paid for the record, and the receipt says I own it....what then?
