I remember holding you when you were born
And swearing to protect you at all cost
From pain and fear.

I remember looking at your beautiful big brown eyes
And thinking there is no way this beautiful child
will ever know loneliness or betrayal.

I remember also watching you sleep and vowing
that you will always have that angelic look on your face
and sleep that peaceful in life.

Now I think back and wonder why I wasn’t able to keep you from
the very things I vowed to keep you from.

I now ask for your forgiveness
Because I was to blind to see what you were going through
And I vow now from this day forward
That my eyes will be open
And this time I will be there for you
And i will keep your nightmares away.
