Thanks guys! Now I understnad what it is. Damn, an extra day off just for shopping....wish we got that here! Then again, I also work holidays, so I don't even those off, I doubt I'd get an extra day off if we had it here. Oh well. *note to self: if you want holidays off, stop working in the medical field.* LOL

lol the funny thing is u americans have more stat holidays than we do up here in canada

just like here there are people that dont get our few holidays off now we have new years then we have nothing till easter and if its a late easter well then....

Yeah I hear ya. Next holiday after New Year's for us is Martin Luther King Day...that's January 18 or 19th...whatever that Monday is. Then in February it's President's day then after that no holiday till Easter, but since Easter is a Sunday, here at the hospital and my EMT job, it's not considered a holiday, since it always falls on Sunday and most people have weekends off. Oh well.

Well I think you guys pretty much know ours....plus we have holidays that aren't...as in we don't get off for them or anything...such as March 17-St. Patrick's Day(Irish ppl...as though I need yet another reason to go out and drink, they throw that in there..LOL) plus May 5-Cinco de Mayo...even though I'm not Spanish, I go out and celebrate anyway. June14-Flag Day...December 7-Pearl Harbor Day and we got a new one coming up in 2003 for September...the 11th is now being called "Patriot Day"

yeah we have a few of those st patricks day, rememberance day and then cultural ones...especially in toronto where its sooooo multicutural u got the jewish, italian, portuguese, greek and wutever other holidays lol i remember in high skool ms i was away cuz it was a _______________(nationality) holiday lol

That's pretty much all ours is. A three day weekend. Actually 4 since Thanksgiving is a Thursday...then the day after isn't a holiday, but everyone thinks it is with the way they go nuts at the malls. Over the years though, Thanksgiving has kind of been forgotten in a sense. Stores seem to bypass it and start putting out Christmas decorations right around Halloween. So the true sense of Thanksgiving has gotten lost in the commercialism. I like Thanksgiving cause it's kind of a low key day and I get to see some of my family that I normally don't see.

I was always under the impression it's a 4-day weekend with (almost) everybody getting the day off work on Friday???
Anyway, we have Thanksgiving on a Monday and we just get the 3 days.
