alright...i have a few things i'd like to say regarding freestyle today and the issue of freestyle being dead and freestyle overall.
Here's the bottom line....freestyle had reached it's peak during 92'-97' tazmania/metropolitan days..in my opinion. Sure after that there were some songs that were all good...but the thing about what made "freestyle" freestyle was that it has it's own sound. so what i think messed it up was trying to fix something that wasn't broken. meaning making new types of freestyle that branched out into a progressive style or even more trancier style making the freestyle fans want to hear other types of music, which in turn forgetting about freestyle over all, leaving it all for the past. that's why i think people might say freestyle is dead. i say producers/artist should make music the way it was....the way everyone remembers it. if they were to do that, they'd make it popular again. i hate living in the past listening to the same old songs over and over. and also..i see all these old artist in thier 30's and 40's having concerts singing the same old songs..i think there should be newer artist singing with that same old style. we should get the younger crowd into it too...that would help freestyle grow ALOT more having a younger audience. like i said...i'd like to hear that same "old" style but newer artist...know what i mean. but freestyle being dead...no..no no...it won't die...we just need to do something with it, make it better not newer. all that i've said is just my opinion, i don't mean to offend anyone like i said...it's just my opinion...so let me know what yall think!!!!!!!!!

I think if we do keep the old flava of Freestyle but just add new artists... it could work out. Cuz if theres newer younger artists to Freestyle it would appeal more to the younger audience. No offense to anyone in particular... im jus saying. I mean itz already hard enough trying to get my friends/peers to 'understand' Freestyle, and most of the time its because they think of it as old and if itz old, the artists must be old...:rolleyes Again no offense. But anywayz wonderful opinion!!

nah! It died after 92. no one played freestyle on regular rotation on the radio after 92.
 
in dallas it was all that from those years 92'-97'. it was on regular rotation with even a station that played nothing and was dedicated to nothing but freestyle 24/7, power 107.1 ..... even 89.3 played it on a regular... kenny.

The problem with Freestyle and i will be totally honest. They need to go back to the begining when they actually used real instruments instead of synthezers.The vocal talent is out there but they need producers that know what they are doing. When they have a concert they have to have a good stage show, and really perform, dance and sing live not just lipsinc most of the song. Besides background dancers they need a background band like the Covergirls had in Tokyo when they came in Second place from some really huge global music award. Expose was so popular cause that had a full aback up band during their concerts. If the original members leave a group just let the group die dont add fake members to it cause then its really a new group.

I remember traveling alot to Dallas I think up to 94, maybe not in NY Ken, but other places😉
 
I don't know how far Freestyle Music will ever get again, but I just continue to listen to it on my own. I have thousands of CD's and play them when I want. If its playing on certain radio stations like KTU, then I listen to freestyle there too. That's all I can do.🙂
 
If you guys are relying on radio to carry freestyle then everyone is dreamin. It's not going to happen. Radio is so political it's pathetic. We reminisce heavily on the old freestyle so much that we fail to leave the doors open for new freestyle. But like I have said time and time again the new freestyle has yet to make a new movement to a different sound all together and until then we are going to keep playing our old school compilations.😀

89.3? is that a big station? I mean, no offense but anything under 92.3 here in NY is basically for the college kids. You can hear just about anything under those numbers.

Out here, the only station that played freestyle after 1992 and before 1996 was LA MEGA, but they played it on select nights like Friday nights.
 
LaBettyBoop, another thing I liked about your husband is when he does he songs with "live instruments". It really brings out the real flavor in his songs!

Naya, your right about that. I was told that the west coast had freestyle in 94 with a ton of new artists. Unfortunetly, not many of the artists made it to the east coast. 🙁
 
IT WAS IN ALOT OF PLACES EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T HAPPENING IN NY
AND IT WAS JUST STARTING TO TAKE OFF IN EUROPE. FREESTYLE IS NOT DEAD ,IT HAS MOVED ON, INTO OTHER AREAS OF THE WORLD. WE MIGHT HAVE HAD THE BEST OF THE BEST HERE ON THE EAST COAST BUT, REMEMBER THEIR IS OTHER PLACES THAT ARE BUMPING RIGHT NOW AND THE KIDS TODAY PLAY ALOT OF FREESTYLE BECAUSE THEY WANT BASS IN THEIR CARS WHEN THEY HANGIN OUT AT THE RACES, CLUBS,ETC... WE ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE WHAT WE HAVE WHICH ARE THE MEMORIES THAT THIS MUSIC BRINGS WHEN PLAYED
AND THAT WILL ALWAYS BE AROUND FOR A LONG TIME....
I SAID IT BEFORE AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN: "THE BEST IS YET TO COME"
 
I REMEMBER DRIVING THRU PHILLY AND HEAR ALOT OF THE TAZ STUFF, ON 102, IN ROTATION BACK IN 95/96

Smaller stations like the ones blow this frequency (college & community) are the ones who are still supporting Freestyle on the air. Commerical stations have no love and it's sad that there are some artists and fans who don't recognize that fact. It's not fair to say that radio doesn't support Freestyle. That is a slap in the face to the smaller more dedicated stations. College & Community stations a.k.a. "Underground" and Internet radio are still dedicated and supportive but that goes un-noticed in todays commercially driven society.

I used to love the college stations (Speedy got his start on college radio before going to HOT 103/97 & KTU)

The thing I hated most was the low frequency which resulted in poor sound quality!
 
Naya and Yvette you ladies know where I'm coming from. Radio will always be radio no matter where you go.😀 Most freestyle records broke thru in the clubs and the streets leaving the old HOT 97 & the so called new KTU no alternative but to play these records.
