I was having a discussion with a very well known DJ, you know just shootin the shit, when he said "I bet if someone wrote a book about freestyle artists and all it's negativity, it would sell more than any well known artists new CD"

WHy do you think that is? Has it really come down to that? that so called "FANS" would rather go out and buy a negative book bashing freestyle artists then buy thier new CD's?

Give your opinons one way or the other, cause I am very interested in this.

Yeah, it would SELL. But I think probably just because people like gossip, most of which is negative.

thanks guys. Mark like you said it would sell cause of the negativity which I understand how negative has always been more powerful than Positive and espcecially in thie freestyle industry. so if that is the case, why all the cryin bout why we can't get more freestyle shows, or more freestyle airplay or more freestyle anything? what is the point then?

I think even I will buy it, just to see who had the heart to talk crap about the new artists or did he just went with the he/she said bull crap. It sad that it goes so far to bash an artist. It's funny cause I bought this video and I recommended to everyone it's tittle "The Freshest Kids". It's about the Rise and the Fall of Break Dancing and Old School Rap, and it's funny, cause the same thing that happen to Disco, Rock, & Freestyle. It's all the same reason, Meanstream Media. Didn't you know that soon as Freestyle got so popular it faded, when it was underground it was the Bomb, now your corny if you listen to it or people will ask "You still listen to that"? We need to go back to our roots and re invent ourselves as artists if ever want to see freestyle or better Latin Hip-Hop/Club Music the way it used to be. My opinion........

Well, I would be more interested in the fact that a book was EVEN published about Freestyle, whether it be good or bad. So I'd definitely check it out, because I'd be interested.

That's true too, it seems like the behind the scenes freestyle scene is pretty much unknown unless your in the industry. The behind the scenes stuff in pop, hip-hop, and rock is all over the place (magazines, television, websites, etc.) so people would probably buy something like that to get more information on what goes down with the artists they like.

It's like freestyle artists release stuff and then disappear. Fans just wanna stay up on wassup with their favorite artists. It's tough though cuz the artists may not have the resources or time to present that kind of information like a pop artist, so they can't do anything. Then on the other hand, the fans are kinda left in the dark too. It's just like an unfortunate causal chain situation. But that's the way it is with most underground music, NOT JUST FREESTYLE (believe me!). And unfortunately, I'm a fan of mostly underground artists. Lol

LatinNation, you better get your ass into the VELVET ROOM is all I know!..LOL good point oo Alex.

MARK THANK YOU!! this is exactly what I have been saying for the longest time, about the artist getting thier stories out before it turned into rumors and all that crap. I agree with you on that point.

which is actually what we are trying to do here with the "Velvet room" aplace where the artists can come in and speak thier minds and contribute and share ideas with other producers.

Then that "Velvet Room" should be hot. Probably artists just need more time to run across it on the site. Then they'll be in 😉 hopefully it works.

The thing about underground artists that's dope is that they're in the streets everyday as opposed to the "pop" artists who may even be from the streets but have been gone so long that they're now detached from what's poppin'. The downside is, the undergrounds aren't paid like the "popstar", so they can't get the word out on how hot their shyt really is. But it's pure hell trying to find material from a lot of underground artists. Lol, especially the ones overseas. Fuhgidabowdit! :stoned

People like to talk ish! This is a fact of life. I'm sure you know a few just like I do. :lol So this person you were speaking to Naya is probably right...sad as that is to say. =\

For myself...I'd be more interested in reading about what's goin on or went on in an artists life such has what inspired them, how they got started, some of their experiences, etc. rather then the bull that seems to have invaded this industry.

People need to learn to respect others before respect is given to them. 😉

LMAO!well thanks to the few that responded with the truth. Honesty is always apprecaited.😉

i wouldnt buy it been fighting like hell to get the negative mindset out of me for a while think thats way changed even what music i listen to it went from 90 % rock and metal 10 % jazz and dance to the reverse
still have to much of a negative outlook which is a bitch to change
if anyone here has gone through bouts of depression knows what i speak of

I think personally, it depends on each individual. Some people like the emotional charge of hearing about others.

Sometimes a person needs to know everyone is human and not everything is so peachy. It is also interesting how people deal with conflict. These are the types of things that insight gossip. These are things to talk and chitter chatter with others.

But on the other side of the coin, if there was a positive book on freestyle it would sell more. I feel, having a positive impact on others gives a long term bonding effect that the music I support, is made by good honorable people who are also human and tht I can relate to and also model or mold myself in that way. =) These are things we keep in our hearts and treasure for lifetimes

Tell All Bash books are for short term sales

Good Quality music will last a life time. Look at this forum, we talk about music from the 80's like it was just yesterday and look at the variety of ages, cultures, and backgrounds bonding together =)

Dayum that was nicely said 😉

I feel that the positive outweights the negative. Even though to thousands...they don't see it that way. 🙂

I would love to read a book like that. Being in the entertainment business has its good and bad, and I feel if artist and producers are able to make hits and earn lots of money and recognition, then I think that if they make crappy music then they should be bashed. Take the good with the bad. Maybe this will keep people from putting out garbage. Come on people, it makes a lot of sense. If we praise evrything and everybody then no one will try harder and we will all be stuck with the same old sh#t. Its not fair to the fans and its not fair to the artist. Think about it, every time a new Freestyle artist puts out a CD no matter how bad it is, everyone still pats them on the back and tells them how great they are. Therefore they never try harder. Radio Stations, Clubs, MTV, Magazines etc. Don't do that, if you don't have something good to offer they don't want to know you. But if you have a great song and one decides to feature you, you're in! Because they'll all put back you up. I feel that we should start a new thread that talks about the songs and artist people "DON"T" like and why. I bet we will do a big justice to Freestyle. Lets call it "FREESTYLE I DON"T LIKE". Who wants to start the new thread?

Unfortunately Naya, Drama/Rumors/Gossips/etc. are part of Freestyle, and we will have to live with that. LOL. 🙂

You could write a big book about all the stupid things/stories happened in Freestyle between the artists, producers, labels, fans, etc., since the birth of our music.
And I think that the Net contributes alot to this negativity, especially since the birth of the Freestyle message boards (the end of the Eighties).

Personally, I will prefer to read/write a book about Freestyle music in the positive way.

I won't ever buy this kind of (negative) book. But I'm agree that this kind of book could be a "best seller"! It will receive a better attention that a Freestyle CD. 😉

Take care Naya.

remember tastes in music is a matter of opinion each person has there own thats why its tough to do "lists of bests "
very well said.

Lisa we had those types of threads here before, and all it did was hurt alot of peeps. I even went head to head to an OPINIONATED perspn talking shit about SAFIRE. and I won't have it again. not in my forum. LIke Ed said Music and the liking o fit is a matter of opinion.

so lets leave those threads out ok? I for one say when I don't like my own music, but some people don't know how to stop there they have to get really stupid with the comments, but the truth of the matter is, if those peeps could do better they would be doing it already, instead of tearing the other person up.

I'm not saying you can't speak on songs you don't like, but I won't allow bashing of any artists new or old on this forum, we've had enough of that.
