The radio station wnew/blink 102.7 fm is changing formats once again as reported in the NY Daily News sometime after christmas. They have dropped the Blink tagline. For years they have been rumours that 102.7FM would become a all dance station (that was since 1995) wouldnt it make sense for the owners to finally take a chance and try it.

the plan is rumored that they are thinking of going after the lite fm market want to go after the baby boomers who have money in there pocket

There would never be another dance format brought around here because It's not profitable. Besides it's about demographics and "we" don't count. A few will put there neck out there, even if "we" would drop money money everynight just to party every weekend. Even KTU is not a dance format but a rhythm format.

you need to realize CLEAR CHANNEL has the market on lockdown and unless you spending money to get your song played, forget the major stations..........
we are surrounded with rap and easy stations now and we need to make a difference by calling the station to complain, request a song(freestyle i hope),don't support their outside events when sponsoring, or write your congressman and tell him to make a change and limit the market for a format on the radio(never happen), but you have to try

Ed you are wrong they are thinking of leaving the adult market and going to something more profitable cause the listeners love 106.7 FM. This station is owned by infinity broadcasting so they might want to try and go against clearchannel and KTU and have a dance station.

Here some interesting info

After about a year, "Blink 102.7" is embarassing Infinity Broadcasting. A recent column in the New York Daily News reported the station had garnered a mere .7% of the Radio a audience, putting it in the back of the pack of the major stations in the Big Apple.

Today, Radio is very segmented and most stations try to serve a very slim demographic: females, 18-34 or males, 25-54 or men, 18-49, etc. Once a station finds an audience, it protects it with its life and cowers at the thought of a competitor coming in and trying to lure that audience away. Some stations are simply happy with whatever scraps are left over.

The real problem here is a lack of guts. Instead of trying to figure out where the "hole" is in a market, Radio companies with resources should declare war on the station in their market that already holds the audience desired.

For instance, you want the Classic Rock demo? Make a better Classic Rock station. If you wanna' be the head of the gang, you challenge the gang leader and land a nice, square left hook on him. When he hits the pavement, you become the new boss.

Three things make a great Radio station: Mornings, Music and Marketing. Infinity Broadcasting has the money to put all three in place yet they waste millions of dollars entrusting a legendary Radio property to TV heads.

The idea of finding "holes" in markets is just settling for less. Great Radio companies take what they want.

At least they used to.

u guys check out Z100 lately?????? They been playin alot more dance music......... hhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

The truth of the mater is that at this present time in NY there is a major need for a country, dance or even jazz station. But for a major urban center like NYC Dance would feel its needs the best. Even with a 2.0 arbitration rating they would have more listeners than most other stations in America plus by being an all dance with new freestyle music station they would be trendsetters in the dance music and general radio world. They would be also attacking KTU FM which would have to make a major choice in there programming.
