In NYC handling my biz!!!!
This is an issue on people who have authority of some kind........could be a boss at work, a cop, Administrators of all kinds, etc......

I find that MOST of these people who have some sort of authority take advantage of it and like to throw their weight around. Show that they have the power. Just like that. Touch the button and it's all done! Well I've put people in their places before who have this problem because if I treat you with respect, you're damn sure going to treat me with the same respect.

We have bosses or administrators that swear they can TALK DOWN to you because of this authority that they have. They treat you like garbage by the way they talk to you. NOOOO!!!!!! I don't think so. It especially gets to me when it's somebody that's like 10 yrs younger than you! Get a life! For real! I don't allow anybody to TALK to me any way they want. I don't care WHO you are. My parents give me respect and they're very much alive.......I have taught my children always to respect people of all ages. I was raised proper. Therefore, I demand mines............

I'm sure there are plenty of us here that can relate to this topic. How have you handled the situation when you've been disrespected? How serious do you take being respected? How far will you let it go being DISRESPECTED?
 
I respect everyone!! Until, they do something that no longer garners my respect. I think we need to as a society teach more respect. Self Respect and Respect for others seems to be going out the window as we get numb to the world and get self absorbed in our lives.😱
 
I understand exactly what you mean. But you have to becareful how you use cop. Depending on the situation if a cop tells you what to do, pretty much you have to do it. For example if he pulled you over and says step out of the car, you have to. I'm not being an ass, but some people think some cops are a**holes, and are pushing people around. There's different reasons why we do what we do. Some people just don't know or think they know the law and what we do or why we do it. So they want to make a confrontation. And when you have that confrontation, that person is going to get a raw deal. Most of us cops are good, just have to deal with lots of bulls**t and people thinking the "I pay your check". Be cause on one hand they hate us. Then when they really need us they get upset cause we didn't get their quick enough.

The minute i feel disrespected i will let the person know. i dont tolerate things like that. If i am respecting you, i do expect u to respect me back... no matter how old you are or what you do in life.
 
Well I'm not one to tolerate any disrespect because I am very respectful of others opinions, beliefs, & way of being. I always try to analyze what I'm going to say before I speak. For example: how would I feel if what I'm about to say was said to me ??
I have authority over others @ work because I'm an account manager, but I never abuse my power because I remember when I had bosses & I was approached in a wrong way (never a good outcome). I feel its a lot better to work with others & not against them, communication is a beautiful thing. One hand washes the other, & ALWAYS remember "what you plant is what will grow".
I really believe that what you do unto others will be done unto you (does'nt have to be you directly), maybe when you are no longer around (GOD forbid) someone will lookout for your kids, parents,loved ones, etc.
 
I had a boss -let's just say he was from "Jesus" nationality who thought he was GOD! He talked down to us like we were idiots and like we were there to cater to him. One day I had hung a dress in the "files" closet becuz I was going to return it to the mall at lunch. It was an expensive dress and I didnt want to leave it in my Jeep.. anyways.. he asked me whose dress that was.. I said mine.. and in a very DEMEANING tone and w/ arrogance said " TAKE IT OUT OF HERE - NOW!" 2 months later I quit.. If I make $$ for you and u r gonna talk to me like Im some flunky.. u can bet ur azz I won't be staying there long.. Hence.. that year, I left my ex husband, left my boss and got a new life! lol..I don't put up w/ that kind of arrogance anymore.. So what u pay me.. that don't mean IM your slave and u can talk to me like u Own me! I don't think so! 😛

I definitely agree with getting respect and GIVING respect.

Just remember that there is a proper place and time for everything. Some people think that "putting someone in their place" means yelling and being forceful. If you do that with a boss or a cop (or a teacher like me) you are NOT helping yourself or the situation.

Even though sometimes we want to go buckwild on someone, the best course of action is to take a deep breath, collect yourself and try not to say things in anger.

If you can, talk one-on-one. If that dosn't work... QUIT!!! (with your dignity).

Ultimately, your BEST weapon is your track record. If you are a slacker (like we all are at times) then the problem is YOU!!! and you have little ground to stand on when you're getting "talked to".
Of course, if you're doing your job and your boss is being an idiot, then the problem is NOT you (it's their miserable little selves).

In the end, you can speak softly and still be assertive.

LOL.. Well I USED to be a doormat! Not anymore.. When I turned 30 all hell broke lose in my life somehow.. and that was my turning point.. Ahora no.. nobody wipes their feet on my azz anymore.. ! lol..
