I did want to be a part of this event but after being aware that only "new school" artist would be require to do their own "promotion" and sell a certain amount of tickets in order to be a part of this event and was told I would have to do the same I changed my mind. I have done other events for Haiti and was not required to sell or promote anything. A promoters job is to promote and an artist job is to sing, why would you ask me to be a promoter when that is not my job is beyond me. If you look at the artist that are already on the bill, do you really think promotion in this fashion is needed? I don't think so. No disrespect to anyone who is a part of this event and I wish you all well, hope you can generate a lot of money but just so you know, this is a matter of people sticking to their rolls and not placing others in a certain category that they should not be placed in. Is this a conspiracy against certain people for certain reasons or is this a fund raiser? Sucks how even something like this seems to turn into something that is not as positive as it seems. What is going no with the freestyle community? Then we wonder why it is as divided as it is and gets nowhere. Time to go into the studio now and record a new song entitled "Freestyle Conspiracy." I think it will open the eyes of many.
 
i made a donation during the haiti telethon on friday. this is the best way to handle these things. the money goes directly to the red cross and other organizations that everyone knows.the most important thing is that the administration costs are kep as low as possible.

If you only knew why I express some of the griminess that has been going on you would understand. See there sre those who think they know what is going on so they make up there own theories. I have been in this long enough to know the truth and I am not afraid to speak the truth for I never intend to make the mistake to let anyone rip me off or place me in this bubble regardless of how much so called control people think the have. I have rights and laws to protect me. Wanna hear about griminess, ok, here we goooo......Try having songs played on major radio stations and then having it not played because the powers that be would do anything not to have new freestyle played on the air even though there are hundreds of fans who want to hear it. Why are you upset because I did not have to use payola to get it played? Why are you so bitter? You been living off the same old material for years so let others eat. It's rediculous. Try you going to a show and people trying anything they can not to put you on stage because they fear you will do better than the artists who is the so called old school main act. "The mics don't work.... if your show tape is too long you are not going on....... your sound man messed up our equipment get him off the stage...." etc. Try doing so much for a genre of music that places you that invents rediculously stupid rules and categories to alleinate those who are actually doing something for the genre, like creating the old school and new school scenario. That's all b.s. It's a way of saying inner circle outer circle or ass kisser non ass kisser. Whoever kisses butt or is part of a certain team is in or whoever kisses butt is in. It's rediculous and I refuse to be a part of such bias rules where in music there are no rules. It's either you are good or you are not. Here in Chicago, the few people who want freestyle only want old school. And old school meaning songs they already know. Sh*t is f*cked up and it's been like that for well over a decade now. Underground dance music is over altogether.

I completely understand that is why I agree with what you are saying. The powers that be redicule freestyle and even in these circumstances, members of the freestyle community play grimy games with each other. That is why freestyle is not even considered a genre but a sub genre. Conspiracy within the conspiracy within the conspiracy. SAD! REALLY SAD! This is funny LOL Now I am a recording artist? Cool it's official, the "new school" tag has been officially erased, now I have been dubbed a recording artist. Guess this post really brought some awareness if even the most uncensored voices think it's not a good thing. Must tell us all something. Great topic for your show by the way. I listen in all the time. Besides it helped to bring the thread up more counts. See that's what people on here are more worried about. I'm not worried about numbers, I am worried about actual people, victims in Haiti, who need help and the best people can come up with is let's tell the so called "new school" artists to either sell 20 tickets or give 200 dollars up front to perform in this show to raise money. In freestyle, "New School" is used to refer to anything that came after 1994/1995, regardless of talent. It's not hating, it's not scamming, it's a simple unwritten rule that is followed anywhere that freestyle is.

This has nothing to do with new school or old school these are things created to take advantage of people when needed and to place people in certain categories that does not exist. Besides reggaeton, freestyle is a new genre when compared to all other genres that have been around longer such as hip hop (where freestyle was born from) r&b, rock, pop all other genres are older, so where new school comes from is rediculous. It does not exist. There is a possibilty that now NO ONE WILL HAVE TO SELL TICKETS IN ORDER TO PERFORM!!!!!!! Hopefully we will get the good news and things will change for the better. I really hope so.

Reading a bit more into this particular situation, I see what you're saying. And yes, it happens a lot that promoters or people in a position of power actually use that "new school" tag to take advantage of a situation. The fact of the matter is that most things in this world are not straight up black & white type issues. There are several performers that came out after 1994 or right around that time who are very established, have underground mixtape/mixshow hits, have drawn fan interest, but since they weren't on chart hit radio back in the day they get classified as "new school". The mitigating factor in how that label came about was "WAS THIS ARTIST'S SONGS PLAYED ON CHART HIT RADIO"? That's the monkey wrench that has skewed everything here in the freestyle industry. To answer your question about what makes freestyle so different from other genres that it has to do that, one must look into what kind of mentality freestyle peeps were in this whole time. They actually thought that chart hit radio spin was normal and that to succeed one must be on chart hit radio. Before the internet destroyed the music industry, there were plenty of artists/producers/independent record labels making plenty of money in the music industry so that's what makes it even more baffling how that mentality of the depending on mainstream radio even comes about. Now in today's music industry climate I see how one could be in that mentality, but what was the problem before 5 years ago?

Another huge factor in all this is that when a scene is dead, people can get away with all kinds of grimey sh*t. That's how every industry get's destroyed.
