The majority of parents I know would NOT want their children to be drafted, and don't view it as an act of cowardice to want to not go to war.

My father (the proud Marine-and long time registered voter) told me and my brothers that if a draft was ever reinstated, he would PERSONALLY pay for our travel expenses to Canada. My father was in the Marines because he CHOSE to go, and is against anyone being forced to be there.
 
REBER!!!!!!!! FYI........I have an uncle and a godfather who both served in the military and had to fight in Vietnam. BOTH today, are very sick people. BOTH today, still talk about it and don't talk proudly of it either. YES, they chose to join the service but today their feelings are different.

If you're proud of what you're doing, you have every right to feel that way. I'm proud of all soldiers who had the balls to sign up and then got called to fight in this phucked up war that's going on right now. And I feel bad for those parents who have lost their young children in this war too! Do you NOT feel anything for the loss of these parents? Because if you do, then damn it, see that when I say, I don't WANT my sons ever getting drafted simply a MOTHER'S LOVE for her child(ren) speaking. This is what this topic was about.........DRAFT. So you can get all political if you want and make us all sound like we're not intelligent because I don't need a soldier boy to tell me I'm STUPID! Phuck that! THE DRAFT CONCEPT WAS BROUGHT UP AND SENT TO CONGRESS OVER TWO MONTHS AGO.

IF YOU WOULD HAVE DONE YOUR RESEARCH, YOU WOULD HAVE SHOT THIS POST DOWN. BUT INSTEAD ADDED TO THE GARBAGE.

Do you people actually think that for one moment another 9-11 could not happen? Really...think about it. Better yet, I think I've said this before, so I'll use this analogy again. Since most of you are GOD fearing people hopefully this will wake you up.

How easy do you people think it is to make weapons grade Chemical Weapons in a powder or Mist form? Any third world nation can make this stuff and have succeded. Who do you think will fight to make sure this stuff isn't used on you while in church? Or better yet, while you and your precious children are in the park playing base ball?

Really think about it. Sit back, relax......and really think about the analogy I just gave you.

Now ponder this......Who will fight to make sure that this does not happen here? 1000 Kurdish women, men and children were GASSED using Checmical weapons containing Sarin Gas.

Do you know how many women and children died due to that regime? But I guess we are to turn a blind eye and not worry about it right?

Do I have a clue about war & the Military? YES. Close friends & family have been there & back throughout the years including my EX-BOYFRIEND. & Now I have peeps over there. RECENTLY, we were in the middle of talking to one of my family members while a bomb went off & the call was cut off.
Were we freaked out?? OF COURSE!
Do I want that for my loved ones?? - NO. (& Neither do you or anyone else).

And Company B.....Where do you see any post of complaining by moi?? You wont. I dont complain about my job. I love my job. It was I who volunteered my service. Till this day, it still is a VOLUNTEER Service.

Now for those who do not know nada about the military, but has friends who hear this and hear that. Guess what...you still have no voice or opinion to it because you lack the experience yourself.

If you have never served why comment? Because you have friends or loved ones who do?? Piiishhhh...Give me a break. I'm not gay but do you see me bashing there life style? No..Why, I have no idea about it. Do I care for it? Nope. And I still wont comment about it. For what?? It is your life style.....not mine. The same about the Military. If you have no idea about it....your comment should be kept to yourselves.

Oh and Company B, As for your friends and loved ones, they knew what the chances were for deployments when they joined the military. If be some chance they really thought that they would never deploy in there military career, then there are as Naive as those standing outside looking inward thinking the same.

THIS IS WHY IT IS CALLED THE MILITARY. A VOLUNTARY MILITARY AT THAT. NO ONE GOT THERE ARM TWISTED OR A GUN TO THERE HEAD AND MADE TO SIGN A CONTRACT IN JOINING.

Last but not Least, Yo "E", in the military, we do have many people son's and daughters who's parents are either Senators, Congressman/women, mayors and a wide variety from other important family names. They also like being anonomous about there family name. No need to drag the family name in the news. For what? So he the soldier could be hounded day and night while at a duty station?

You folks have no idea about this subject. You let hyped up news casters fuel your so called rage about this subject. Like I said above, EDUCATE.

I was not talking about you complaining about your job, just complaining about how the people here reacted to the issue.
Instead of coming out da cut all nasty, you should have just educated those here who don't know much, in an educated way.
There was no need to put everyone down as if they were 'below you' or sumthin'.

I beleive we all know it IS a volunteer service. It just 'may not be' if Bush pushes that thang again. & Like I said, aside from my loved ones that had already been in the Military (before the war), 2 of them CHOSE to go overseas, after the war had already started. & They were ALL very aware of deployment.

Just cuz I haven't experienced the Military, does not mean I do not know enough that I can't comment on it. My loved ones who live that life, & LOVE living that life, are close enough to me to have painted a pretty good picture of it, which has made me understand & respect what they do, more than I have. But I still wish things were different. (War-wise).

Needless to say, The army doesn't twist arms, hold guns at head, threatens to banquish first born children for service into the military.

And on top of that, you have enough time to just walk away and tell the recruiter that you change your mind. And to think that you join and to never go to war...come on......do you really think that??? I cant imagine anyone being that pendeja enough to think that.

As for those that do make that choice, it is there choice to make. You and no one else is in charge of there life. It is what they wanted.

The military is voluntary. That's right! Contrary to what anyone tells you the military is voluntary. Anyone who wants to go can do so upon meeting certain qualifications. If you don't want to go then you don't have to unless Congress says otherwise. Even though the war in Iraq is going on, and the media just wants to focus on deaths going on, the military is surpassing their recruiting goals. I have the utmost respect for those that choose to defend this country. The risks are high and so are the dangers, but they will have taken part in our defense. I could care less wether the president or any other politician has their children there or not. It's and individual choice and I would rather look after myself instead of others. With that I am hopeful that all the terrorists world wide are hunted down and gotten rid of. I would especially like to see Abu Musab Al Zarqawi beheaded publicly.

Carlito, I listen to the news too and I'm with you. There's nothing that is "coward" when we come up here on the boards and quote what we hear. Draft is very much possible. So all I have to say is "WHAT-EVEEEER" to whoever comes in here and calls us "stupid" in so many so called ways.

Trust me on this. If enlistment were no longer voluntary, we military guys would be the first to know.
