GIVE YOUR OPINION ON THIS. HOW CAN PRODUCT SELL WELL WHEN IT BECOMES FREE BAIT FOR PEOPLE WHO DECIDE TO BURN IT INTO AN MP3 OR CD? YES, THERE ARE MANY REASONS FOR MANY THINGS, HOWEVER I CAN'T HELP BUT BELIEVE THAT THIS HAS HURT THE SALES OF FREESTYLE ACROSS THE BOARD. THE BURNING OF MUSIC HAS INDEED BURNT THE INDUSTRY. WILLIE, FOR EXAMPLE, HAS MOST LIKELY BEEN HURT BY THIS. CAN YOU HONESTLY SAY HIS SALES WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN HIGHER IF THIS MUSIC BURNING WASN'T POSSIBLE? YES, THERE HAVE BEEN WAYS TO COPY MUSIC FOR QUITE SOME TIME (CASSETTES FOR EXAMPLE). HOWEVER, IT'S NOT THE SAME GAME ANYMORE. WITH THE PHENOMENON OF THE INTERNET, A CLICK OF SOME BUTTONS CAN SEND A SONG TO LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF POTENTIAL BUYERS.
I KNOW THERE IS THE FILPSIDE, IN THAT DOWNLOADING, FOR EXAMPLE, GIVES THE POTENTIAL BUYER A CHANCE TO HEAR A TRACK BEFORE PURCHASING IT, ETC.
SO, HAS THE BAD OUTWEIGHED THE GOOD? MY OPINION IS OBVIOUS....WHAT'S YOURS?

Somehow I dont believe I could get the same CD quality on a MP3 or CDR. Close, but not same quality.

CD copying does hurt CD sales no doubt about that I feel. And if there is a Freestyle Artist out there starting out in the business, it can potentially hurt him very much I once again feel.

Thats my opinion. 🙂

But you know what? Thats the way it is, and its always hard to stop. Its like Cable, people try to get it free/pay per view/descrambler etc

Theres always gurus out there wanting the good things in life for free, and there is no end, and thus they break the codes etc, providing the masses with free copying etc and nobody paying a dime.

P.S: I dont like MP3's because they are altered in some sort. And I dont like CDR's either. I like authentic music with the maximum bitrate it can incorporate.

hmmmm...

Honestly, I've downloaded and burned every freestyle song that I wanted and didn't have because you cant really find any freestyle songs anywhere else. I'm trying to be better. i've been holding off on any George Lamond songs because there is as Greatest Hits cd in stores that I can buy. But, then there's the Cynthia's Greatest Hits, which i wont buy because Change On Me and Endless Nights are the shorter versions and not the ones I want(I want the extened versions off MicMac)Plus it didnt even have How I Love Him, it is so hard to find those! So I downloaded and burned em. I think it record companys are the ones !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ing up. they should keep the classics.yeah I'm sure it is hurting the artists. My opinion, if they sell it in stores, I'll buy it. if I cant find the songs I want anywhere I'll burn em. :stoned

I say, if you cant find it, get it for free screw that. I like that. The Sa-Fire songs are hard to find, then download them wherever you find them and screw the rest. Those CDs are not even on the shelves anymore except her "Bringing Back The Groove"

But oldies, Freestyle tunes hard to find...I dont care about anything. You dont shut down good music. Its always freakin money involved over the power of music etc. So thats that.

Hahah I know what you mean. I dont like the 4-5 minute cut off versions. I like the long orignal version. Its like 8 minutes of Endless Nights. Keep it going damnit! DONT TOUCH WHATS GOOD. lol

"I Love Him" is on her third album "Thinking About You" CD. Can be found out there.

Well its all based on sales that is why. So more sales, more pressings.

Amen burn if you can't find. I dont burn cause Im not into that stuff. Im a original CD collector. So I have to pay out of my ass. LOL (Borrowing Kenny's quote there lol)

yeah that too some of the songs on MP3 come in like shit too.like Rhingo's Without Your Love and Lia Marquis' Dreams well I'm trying to help with that GL cd. hopefully its got the good versions and ALL the songs i like. i'll do that and buying freestyle mixes are bout the only hope for most rare songs i'd buy em if they'd sell em. it is so much easier anfd better quality. 😉

There is only one way to support an artist, with cash. However...

It's like this. When Synthia Figueroa came out, I couldn't find her album anywhere, but I did find almost every song on mp3, so I downloaded them. By the time I did find the cd I had most every song but I still bought the album. Thats just how I am. Like someone already said so much of whats available on MP3 is no longer available for sale, in my mind thats fair game - I download it all. And when a new album comes out I buy it. If I can't find it right away I download as much as I can and wait till I do find the CD. I believe that artists that are not in the "mainstream" need support, thats why I buy the albums (IF I like them). And to be honest there are some songs I've downloaded and said "this is a good song for free, but I don't think its good enough to spent my money on". I'll keep it and tell people where to get it from, but I won't pay for it. I'm tired of people telling me that every song I download I need to pay for. I work hard for my money and when I decide to buy a CD I want a quality product. And some of the free songs out there should be free. They serve their purpose, they get the artist some exposure and some promotion. and then in the future, when they come out with another song I take notice. Maybe I'll like the next song enough to but it.

So to recap...
I support the artists I like with cash - I BUY their CD'S. And I download the songs I can't find.

Did any of this make sence? I just got up...

This has been the topic of debate for quite some time. This does not just plague our industry, but the music industry as a whole. Burning cd's and mp3's will hurt any industry. I have said this before. Freestyle has not been hurt by burning of mp3's, but by terrible promotion by the record labels. If you want to support your artist, then you have to promote them the right way. How many times have you gone into a record store and NOT seen any fliers, or ads, or anything related to freestyle, hanging up in the store? Not one! I live in Chicago, so it might be different for other parts of the country, but I don't think so. What posters or ads do you see? Rap, Country etc. What cost is associated with this? Very little! I can see how radio and magazine print can be xpensive, but the method I just stated? It costs very little and they won't do it!

Going back to your topic, burning cds and mp3's have hurt the industry, but not that much. There is little significant impact I think. Look at Freestyle's core audience ---> teenagers. Now our question becomes, who has access to cd burners and the internet? It has greatly improved since the '90's, but still not that far too impact the industry.

Bottom line is what has hurt freestyle and still is is the record labels won't promote their artists the right way....

MP3's can only promote freestyle music to the world. Now making those products availoable on record store shelves will make the added difference the industry is looking for.

This Is Such A Touchy Subject Anthony...Always Gets Brought Up...and I Don't Feel Like Typing Up A Book. So Here It Goes :

IF THE SONG OR ALBUM IS AVAILABLE TO BUY....BUY IT...

IF ITS HARD 2 FIND AND U KNOW U CANT FIND IT BUT GETTING IT ONLY ON MP3? THEN BURN BABY BURN...

THATS AS SIMPLE AS IT GETS...

Peace.

me personally, i only buy artists i truly like. the ones i kinda know their history (Aaliyah, Ginuwine, Cynthia, George Lamond, etc.). i know what i'm gonna get from them. otherwise i dub it or burn it. especially since most artists do not release singles anymore. dont trick me into buying your whole album and u only got one hot track on it. that $hyt pisses me off! u gotta give the consumer a choice or be able to satisfy, which most artists cant do in my opinion.
