It really depends on the child and how responsible they are. The eye doctor that I used to work for didn't recommend that any child under the age of 13 get contacts.
 
I have 20/20 vision....so i don't need them... but i like glasses for some reason..i wear non-prescribe glasses in occasions..i like the look...specially with a hot outfit........
 
I wear contacts!! I have a very bad stigmatism in both eyes! THANKS MOM!!:face I've been wearing glasses since 2nd grade but as soon as I went to H.S. I got contacts and never put a pair of glasses again!! Who wants to wear Coke bottle bottoms on there eyes. NOT ME!! Basically, what I'm trying to say is that I'm a blind Bi'atch1!:bayum

I ask because my (now) 8 year old wears glasses. He originally had some black frame kid glasses that his teenage sister picked out for him and the kids in school started messing with him because they were nerdy, but for a teenager they were cool. (Go figure). I ended up getting him some really cool Bolle that have the lenses that shade in the sun and now the kids think they're cool, so they don't mess with him and he doesn't mind wearing them. The problem is they're expensive and he's already broken a pair in the first 6 months.

I was hoping to get him into contacts as soon as possible but he's my lazy one so I don't think he's responsible enough yet. I guess I'm stuck keeping him the in the cool but expensive ones.

Maybe in a couple years he'll get better at taking care of his glasses and you can try the contacts. Most doctors will give you a trial pair so you might want to try that first to see how he does with them. 🙂
