A song i heard back in 1987/88 had a chorus that went:-

Together we will be

Cause this was meant to be

Female artist I think by the name of CARMEN but i could be wrong...
Hopefully someone could tell me for sure and if still available somewhere, somehow...

"You And Me" by Carmen was released in 1986 on Suite 2 Records, which was distributed by Atlantic/WEA. Since I'm at work right now, I don't have the record in front of me - but if memory serves me right it was produced by Teneen Ali and Avy Gonzales - the same team responsible for Nancy Martinez & Natasha.
