what have we learned since 9-11??? a special report last night on CBS news showed that one of the prime targets for the next terrorist attack is the GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE the single most important route of transport on the east coast... you figure with that common knowledge the bridge workers would be carefully screened by the port authority.. but nooooooooooooo many workers do not have any background checks men go in and out of construction areas on the bridge unchecked .no ID which is supposed to be "strictly enforced" what would single bomb do to the bridge?? well if you could forget the towers falling 4 years back imangine a whole lot of cars and trucks falling into the hudson river in flames as thousands are killed again due to US BEING STUPID AND IGNORRANT AGAIN!!!!

NEW YORK (CBS) A routine traffic stop leads to the arrest of a terror watch list suspect in our area. What's more, CBS 2 has learned 39-year-old Sami Ibrahim Isa Ardel Hadi had a valid I.D. to work as a painter on the George Washington Bridge.

Hadi was arrested yesterday afternoon by Bergen County Police, say sources, on Route 46 by Ridgefield Park. He was stopped for tailgating.

When the officer called-in the North Carolina plates of Hadi's car, the Bergen County Police report indicates the officer was told Hadi was on several federal agency terror watch lists, and there was a stop and hold order on him.

The police report also says that Hadi had a valid temporary I.D. to work on the George Washington Bridge. He works for L & L Painting, the subcontractor painting the bridge.

The FBI was called and took Hadi and a second person in the car into custody, though the second person was not on the terror watch list.

L and L Painting is based in Hicksville, says it could not comment because it works for the Port Authority, and the Port Authority says it's been told Hadi is not on a terror watch list.

But the PBA union for Port Authority Police confirmed that a painter on the GWB has indeed been arrested and was on the terror watch list.

The PBA said Hadi was on the list because his visa had expired and authorities could not locate him.

PBA officials added, "What scares us is that workers on the Port Authority's bridges and tunnels have no security background checks.

They say they've complained about this since 9/11.

time for the government to stop telling us what we want to hear and for the people to demand the security we need!!!!

you charge 6.00 dollars per car on that bridge everyday and you cant afford a background check?? motha fukas even mc donalds does background checks!!!!

that was one of the excuses the port authority used ...they even had the audacity to say if we want better screening they should raise the toll on the bridge!

Oh lovely.

glad I don't use that bridge.

I've often thought that the tunnels would be a target. Holland and Lincoln.

another thing i saw last night was donald trump on larry king live with an idea i agree with....he said "the new liberty towers development on ground zero in new york is designed by an egghead architect with no concept of design ..and that we should rebuild the towers with a stronger safer design then the original" I think thats a really good idea!

I had read that if they rebuilt the towers, they were afraid they would become a target again.

whatever they build there would be a target chuck... and getting back to the bridge makes you wonder whats going on behind the sences..things that dont make the news at night....and I know there must be alot.. when i was in the service part of my tour was at cinclant fleet command (naval base in norfolk va) sorting out daily military incidents that could be released to the press and those that were to remain classified ..theres alot that happens everyday!

It doesn't matter what they put there - the Liberty Towers or a new Twin Towers...it will still be a target...As long as we keep having beef with these terrorist everything is a target...that is what happens when we have idiots running the country...It's a shame :realsad

this is a follow up interview by "the investigators" with babara wallce

New York-WABC, May 17, 2005 ) — There are new questions tonight about security at the George Washington Bridge. Just a couple of weeks ago the Eyewitness News Investigators disclosed that a bridge worker was on a government watch list. The Port Authority said things would change. They may not have changed. Sarah Wallace has the story.

We obtained an internal Port Authority report which suggests that even right after 9-11 the agency identified the George Washington Bridge as the most critical structure for travel and commerce on the east coast. Just some of the facts of many: If the bridge were destroyed by a terrorist attack, the casualties could be in the thousands, and it would cost $3.7 billion dollars to replace the bridge and take 5 to 7 years and yet serious security concerns remain.

Sarah Wallace: "This is what you're supposed to have?"
Bridge Worker: "Yeah."

He's right: A valid photo I.D. The Port Authority's policy, in writing, says that all bridge workers, even painters working for the day, must have one clearly visible.

Six months ago we first raised the issue of the lack of I.D.s documented in various Port Authority Police reports. Then, just the other day, we watched as a number of workers came off the bridge with no I.D.s in sight.

But even if bridge workers wanted to have the proper I.D., police sources at headquarters tell us that for the past six weeks, up until this past weekend, they've been unable to take photos.

That's because the camera was broken. As a result, our police sources tell us they were told to issue cards with no photo on them.

After we began asking about the problem last week, the camera was suddenly fixed over the weekend. But what's not yet fixed is the issue of criminal background checks. Right now, the Port Authority police aren't allowed to do them.

Gus Danese, Port Authority PBA: "You don't know who's out there. It's not just that if you're on a terrorist list, but what if you're a wanted felon?"

That was supposed to change after we disclosed that a bridge worker picked up during a traffic stop on Route 46 on May 3rd had been on a government watch list. The Port Authority announced it would begin doing checks on all workers.

Sarah Wallace: "They said they were going to start doing background checks."
Danese: "Sarah, they did that just to blow you off."

Ken Ringler, Executive Director: "We put together a task force immediately when we received the information that I think you even brought forward to us."

But The Port Authority's executive director now says although they can and do run checks on contracted workers at area airports, there may be legal and privacy issues about similar checks on bridge workers.

Sarah Wallace: "Do you believe as executive director that someone who goes on the bridge?"
Ringler: "We'll do what we can. In the next couple of weeks I'll know more about what we can do."

Some Port Authority insiders have suggested that the real stumbling block on background checks may not be so much legal as financial-- how to pass on the cost to contractors.

I believe that strongly taezee. 🙂

yeah ANT ... just like reports that did not come out to the public untill after the twin towers were attacked .. that the US goverment was warned on several occasions that terrorist may be working on training "martyrs" to be able to hijack and fly jets into intensely populated american cities..the reports were not taken seriously even said to be "impossible" by some officials... makes it more frightening that reports are coming in that terrorist are working on a nuclear detonation in the states and guess what? some of the same people are saying "impossible" again!

That's the mistake that people make. Though there are things you can do to better you chances of being safe, nothing in life is ever sure. People are hit the hardest when they are TOO sure of themselves. But at the same time you can't let fear govern your life. I personally find the thought of bioterrorism the scariest. If I remeber correctly I read the amount of botulism spores that fit in 1 soda can added to the water supply would infect the entire city population in 2-3 days and most would be dead in a week after their vital organs turn to mush in a matter of days...lots of scary diseases out there.

theres many different threats.. but i guess my point is whos actually in charge of security of our country? why do we let people who are on a terrorist watch list not only live here but get a job?? and why is it when something like this comes out our dumb asses are more interested in janet jacksons tit..britney spears getting married.or who paula abdul is screwing?? are we really this stupid??

Well that's comforting...I think anything in NYC is a target from the buildings to any of the bridges to any of the sights...everyone who has common sense knows this so why doesn't the government seem to care???
