Thats where MOST of my "back in the days" memories come from...
Years ago.. it was a HAVEN for freestyle....
Tonasia, Coro, Soave, Judy Torres, Joey Kidd, & MORE the list goes on... & the cool thing is.. they would mingle w/ us before & aftre the show.... they were real.... & it was great!
& mOre had the most beautiful singer/dancer with them.. to this day I stil remember her.. its funny the things that stay w/ you....
man was she hot!

I was @ Lincoln H.S. in Yonkers @ the time....and I could never get in , I was underage........

I never made it to Act III even though I lived about 2 miles down White Plains Road.

While I mostly hung out at "The Underground" in NYC (in Union Square - circa '85/'86), the latter-day "Studio 54" (same era) and various Jersey clubs (mostly "Passion" in Fairview --- anyone remember THAT place? My friends and I were sort of regulars and we were always let in free -- they also had good performers there regularly, such as Joyce Sims, Secret Ties, Claudja Barry, Nocera, etc.), my wife - who was from the Bronx - used to get into Act III. I don't know if this was pre-"freestyle" or during its heyday....probably around the start of it. Funny, but in the '80s, when I was in my late teens/early 20s, and the current "dance" station was the old "Hot 103", we didn't call it freestyle. I think that name was slapped on the style later on....sort of how people w/ long hair who smoked pot in the late '60s and early '70s became known as hippies.

Ah, those were the days....those '80s club days.

damn....the underground. that took me back. dat was one of ma regular hangouts during the last yrs. of freestyle. people never seem to mention that club too much. i have great memories of that place....*sigh*.

My "Underground" years were around 1984-86. I believe that eventually they went rap so I stayed away.

damn...dat was wayyy b4 my club years...i was going round 88-89....it was still mostly dance music and at least 2 freestyle acts performing on fri and sat night. i remember seeing cynthia and pajama party (with the original blonde singer) there at one point.

The Tropics!!!! Oh no!! I cant beleive there was a post about this place!! Me and my friends were regulars at this place, in the late 80's. We were there every Sat night. That place was so small and they used to cram so many people in there.

Liz I was in the same boat but one day my cousin snuck me in... I was like Ohhhhh ohhhhhh the TROPICS....LMFAO!!!
