I have a question...

Back in Europe, I've seen a video for Bailando, in Spanish. I believe that it first came out in Spanish then English. But anyhow.... a girl who sang it was named MONA LISA....

So did Elissa change her name? Because I remember that music channel saying something like that. Or am I confused again... which seem to happen a lot lately... :crap

The track you are referring too was done by spanish dance act LOONA and produced by DJ Sammy.

"Bailando" was covered by many people around the world including Angelina in the US. Canada's Elissa covered Bailando on Ti Amo Records/Popular and was an instant nationwide club and radio hit all over Canada prior to competing label Universal thinking of releasing the Loona version (which ended up on a compilation titled Puredance3).
A freestyle mix was available on the Elissa cd single, 12" and album "I can't Stop).

Subsenquently, Elissa achieved a higher level of unparralled nationwide radio and club play/sales success in Canada with her cover of another latino track: "mamboleo"; beating the original european label to release it with its original artist in Canada.
Elissa's "mamboleo" was featured on the b side of the US pressing of her Canadian freestyle megahit "Back to me".

the video was on the boat and there were 2-3girls wearing these pink colored wigs... am i wrong???? cos that's what i remember.

You are correct, you were watching the original european release of "Bailando", which was a worlwide latin dance hit for the group LOONA (except in Canada where it was too late as Elissa's team had successfully outsmarted the original label by licensing the track quickly and very early for Canada).

Now that I thought of it, in the USA, the same scenario did not work as well for Eyra Gayle with "Heaven". The DJ Sammy version on the Robbins label made it to the US almost at the same time and is THE version that is prevailing on radio and retail.

Ah that bailando song there was a point that u would hear it eveywhere ud go even across the ocean trust me i know. yeah so many dif remixes, done in a few dif languages. hey when its a good song u gotta do it up like that.

thnx for the info people 🙂 i appreciate it.... but my question was... did Elissa EVER change her name from MONA LISA.... cos that's what I heard on a european radio station 7yrs back and that was who sang that Bailando song.... I'm just dead curious lol

Gina, I like ur line girl! "when god created ginas he created perfection"

The answer is no. Canada's Elissa has only released records in Canada, USA and Brazil; she has also appeared on compilations in Germany.

Mona Lisa was a remake...
