It happened Friday, December 26th WLVE (93.9) a smooth-jazz station flipped after Christmas to become 93.9 MIA.

Tuning in (being that I'm in Florida right now as I'm typing this), the station does sound a LOT like 'KTU....a rhythmic adult contemporary station playing the popular rhythmic material (Rhianna, Kanye West, Britney Spears, Chris Brown, etc.).

Granted, everything is coming up brand new in terms of the launch right now, but I would think, just like it's 'KTU counterpart (both stations owned by Clear Channel), that classic freestyle may be a part of this....the South Florida based material as well as some of the NYC stuff.

Here's their link..... 93.9 MIA

This is just another Y100. Nothing special
Not like when there was the dance only station a few years back

Agreed.

Granted, this isn't Party 93.1. Basically it's a "repeat" of Mega 103.5, which had a similar format and was owned by Clear Channel. It may get some South Florida specific classic freestyle down the road....but for current dance fans, there still is a need for a station down there.

and its no where near mega, that station used to play seventies and eighties dance pop. U would think that alot of people were mad when Party 93 left teh airwaves they would get it right. And I feel bad for those people who listened to Love 94, guess no jazz station. I think if u goin to change formats, change formats to something that is not in the market, y make another Y100. Clear Channel has ruined music as we know it

Actually, they moved Love 94 over to the HD-2 side. But then again, who in the world has an HD radio outside of radio geeks such as myself! 😀

Well...stations with a "Movin/'KTU" style stations are a start on the "safe". Though for a market like Miami, a Pulse/Party 93.1 style station would work as well.

Just that one genre of a particular dance sound can't oversaturate everything else (in the case of now..."electro")

But it can't be the pop stuff they playing now. it has to be dance music in all forms like Party 93 did. And please leave the hip hop for the other stations, there are plenty of those around.

yea, the dance stations need to stop playing the hip hop crap. they may say its only a few songs, but one is by far enough.

I wanna reiterate that I do not hate hip hop, I actually love it pero if you gonna be a dance station it has to be strictly dance or dance remixes of popular songs. So I went to physical therapy this morning for my ankle (so much pain LOL) and they had the station on because they heard it was a new all dance station but as I worked out these were the songs they played:

Nelly Furtado - I'm Like A Bird
Lissette Melendez - Together Forever
Jesse McCartney - Leavin
Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love
Donna Summer - Hot Stuff
Salt n Pepa - Push It
Justin Timberlake f/ T.I. - My Love
Mary Jane Girls - My House

while i liked the mix from seventies to eighties, i was wrecked hearin Nelly Furtado and Jesse McCartney

Actually. what this format is on 93.9 MIA as well as 'KTU is known as "Rhythmic Adult Contemporary". Other markets simply call it "Movin".

It may be dance per se but more on an older front of the music. So for freestyle, you would want this type of station to play the music, especially that there is a South Florida following.

But for my cup o' tea, I would hope that a new version of a Party 93.1 style station would come around for the region. Outside of NY and LA, Miami has the base for such a station.

I heard the station the other night on saturday night from 7pm till about 830 in my car heading to my gig and they played shannon, george lamond, nice and wild and debbie deb all in 70 min. Not back to back but when i got out of the car tka came on at the 90 min mark. So if anything thats pretty good. Maybe because it was saturday night who knows?

Hey Tito, its great to see you posting here. Anything new on the music side, new songs or album coming out.

KTU is a complete WASTE all they play is the same hip-hop, R&B, and pop music like Britney Spears, Rihanna , Kanye West The same artists you hear on every other station in the country, and no true dance recording artists ...so any station the copied it would be a waste to.....

instead of calling them selves new york dance music leader....they should call them selves new york s dance music oppressor

clear channel/radio is entirely about money NOT about music

besides i dont think anyone who knows good music even cares about commerical radio its a total waste espeical for dance music....

at least now we have other options (internet, sirus, ipod etc)

1. I don't think 'KTU has called themselves "New York's Dance Music Leader" in a long time. They certainly don't have claim to the title now.

2. KTU New York, meet KTU Miami, because that's EXACTLY what 93.9 MIA is.

3. I accept those other options as what we have to go through today regarding music (heck, that's why we've even changed OUR name to the NYDMC, because honestly, we can no longer depend on terrestrial radio as long as corporate radio continues to stubbornly think the way that they do. Terrestrial radio will continue to screw things up since they've lost all aspects of creativity thanks to deregulation. To that, radio did it to ITSELF!

4. Don't think Sirius XM could be considered an option in the near future since their stocks tanked to about a dime or so a share.

I know you can do this with smartphones as long as you have an adapter to plug the smartphone to either a cassette jack or a port (in newer cars) but as long as you have an UDP (unlimited data plan), you could tune into streaming stations on the Internet in your car! And as long as the 3G/Wi-Fi technology continues to advance down the road, you will be able to listen to the Interet stations YOU WANT serving YOUR interests! And that is scaring the crap out of terrestrial radio.
