i am not at all into new club music so i have no clue whats on going on today.
i was at my local dj store looking for madonna white labels and saw 3 records on the ZYX label. same old 90s style diecut artwork but a much thinner sleeve. i figure zyx is huge for spreading the freestyle vibe in germany. maybe? some new fs? on vinyl?!?!?

so i looked at them, theyre dated 2005. lets check them out.

sampled. they all sounded like they were hi-nrg songs from 1986.

and when i say hi-nrg i dont mean 90s euro dance; the original hi-nrg sound of the 80s that stemmed from the disco era most popular in gay bars/clubs. that particular hi-nrg bouncing bassline sound along with techno is what became 90s euro/hi-nrg. and oh, the damn cowbell was infamous in practically every 80s hi-nrg song.

it was never really my cup of tea cuz i was more into freestyle/electro & rap, but there were some good songs. kim wilde's cover of you keep me hanging on my favourite.

so i asked the record shop guy what was up with these records. im like are they new recordings, they sound like there from the 80s. he said they were new and the style is back. anything italo-disco oriented is very popular.

i thought this was very interesting.

this could offer a chance for us to see freestyle regain club popularity again??? perhaps there will be a flood of new releases and new vinyl. oh wouldnt that be magical.

just wanna share my thoughts.

ps. one of those toons was VERY company b sounding

History repeats itself, and I think that it's possible for freestyle to have a comeback.

My lord - I'd say a good 75% of those songs were on Dance Party..eeeks...

I have YET to find a good MP3 of Hazell Dean's Always Doesn't Mean Forever - that was one of my faves..

There is always the chance for it to come back, one good example i can give you is Eurodance from the 90's. Very popular here in Toronto now, gets regular airplay on Z103.5 including the rare ones (i.e. Look Twice, Black & White, Masterboy). Actually this wednesday Emjay, La Bouche, Le Click (and of course Joee) are preforming in concert, so you can see by how popular Eurodance is again. But, unfortunately the same doesnt go for Freestyle, you still get to here it on the radio but not as close to the level of Eurodance. But always be optimistic 🙂

Shannon also released a Hi-NRG song in 1985 with "Do You Wanna Get Away"

NATIVE LOVE MY ALL TIME FAVE. that track is fierce.
RIGHT ON TARGET is such a great track. there is a LOT of funk in that record. one of the funkiest basslines imo.
MY FORBIDDEN LOVER great track. that type with the synth pop style i like a lot.

ERIA FACHIN SAVIN MYSELF is a big fav of mine too.
