Four people were shot and three others stabbed in a wild melee in Brooklyn sparked by a fight among a group of young women, police said Friday.
None of the injuries were life-threatening, though one victim, a 28-year-old man, was shot in the chest, police said. He and the other six victims were in stable condition at Kings County Hospital Center.
The Thursday incident happened at 9:50 p.m. on Chauncey Street in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, outside the Jackie Robinson Houses, authorities said.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said as many as 10 females were involved in a brawl.
"In that confrontation, three females were slashed, males joined that encounter and then another group of males coming from another location approached and apparently fired shots," Kelly said. "Quite frankly, [those involved] are not being particularly cooperative."
There were 20 shots fired from at least two different guns, Kelly said. The other shooting victims are males, ages 16 to 37.
The three female victims are all 19 years old, police said. One was slashed on the chest, another on the lip and the other on her eye.
