2 Step and UK Garage could be the answer for successful Freestyle

I was reading Freestyle Evolutions by K7. brings up a great idea. As you know like freestyle, house, techno is not all that succesful on mainstream radio either. But MJ Cole and Craig David could be the solutions to making freestyle sucessful again. Many freestyle producers need to take a risk with the freestyle the way MJ Cole did in The UK when he helped pioneer 2 Step(a combination of UK Garage structure in r&b, pop form)like Craig David for example. His songs are UK Garage tracks which are structured in the style of R&B and pop songs with the Garage loops. Many of the freestyle artist needs to start recording a freestyle track which can still keep the freestyle bass loop, but have a r&b style. It won't set the world on fire quickly but will resurge the demand for freestyle. Lets hear your thoughts or better ideas.😉

2 step and uk garage is more of an overseas thing. we all worry about freestyle not getting airplay, but really dance music in general is not getting airplay here in the u.s. whether it's freestyle, house, 2-step, garage or whatever.
on the west coast, some stations have been playing new freestyle like Wild 94.9, stations in Fresno, Monterey, San Diego. texas is playing some freestyle.
one reason that new freestyle isn't getting airplay on dance stations in the u.s is that the dance stations are mostly owned by Cox, and pretty much run by Bill Tanner so they all pretty much have that same vibe. it's almost like a monopoly in dance music now. even the new dance stations in san francisco and denver which are not owned by Cox are programmed or consulted by Bill Tanner. that is why all the dance stations sound alike (except KTU owned by Clear Channel). so if Bill Tanner doesn't like NEW freestyle, it won't get airplay. that is a big problem, there was hope with new dance stations popping up all over, but now it is becoming like a monopoly. less variety and creativity. how do you explain those other stations in california (except Party 92.7 in san francisco) which aren't all dance (unlike Party 92.7) playing freestyle? these stations play very little dance, yet they play some freestyle (although mostly in the mixshows).

Finally someone agrees with me on how similar freestyle, 2 step & uk garage are. The gap between 'em isn't that great.
I don't know the problems with radio station over there in the states but is there any reason why the u.s. labels can't aim there releases at u.k. or european radio stations? Many acts have broken in Europe before breaking the states. N'sync, No mercy, Backstreet boys, sonque and many others...

I've touched on this topic quite a few times but not much interest, i believe due to the freestyle purists out there.

the reason is that europe and the u.s. are two different places that have very different tastes in music, although some music does eventually become big in both places. there is alot of dance music in the u.k. that would have have a chance in the states. some will. but there are just too many differences between the places- trends, culture, ethnic makeup, that has formed people's lives.
you can even see how there is a difference between new york and california. ktu shaped new yorker's tastes playing the old school, very little new freestyle.
whereas on the west coast stations were playing new school progressive freestyle and people's tastes are different on the west coast.

yeah definitely craig david, but still he has a watered down version of 2 step, at least the songs that have made it big here in the states. his songs seem to have alot of r&b flavor in them, helping them appeal to radio and listeners.
