Just received my invitation to WMC '02 being held at the Miami Beach Convention Center March 23-27, 2002. Winter Music Conference Now, I've been reading your posts on what it would take to get the Freestyle music genre to the next level and I believe we need a kickstart at this event. Have been following up with DMA Magazine who covers the event and the Freestyle writers (currently, Missy Querry) do a great job. Anyone agree??

Ive never been there before..is it just supposed to be for artists, producers and other people in the industry or can Fans come too to listen to the music?
 
Freestyle a No SHow at WMC

I regret to inform all those interested in WMC that Freestyle is treated like a step child at the conference. I know this because I go every year. A few years back they use to have a panel dedicated to freestyle but the last two years they haven't.

It a shame because this conference could do a great deal to help freestyle back on it's feet. What I do recommend is that all those in the freestyle industry attending WMC get together and hold our own panel to discuss issues that relate to increasing awareness of our music or just bounce ideas off one another. Or possibly get a club where we can showcase our new artists. If we, as labels, can't get respect on our own then maybe banding together we can help each other out. Just a thought.............

But if nothing else..............there's always the warm weather, slammin house music, and MOM's home cooking to look forward to in Miami. So I look forward to seeing all you there.😎

I've heard rumors that there isn't alot of love for Freestyle at WMC but dag.. I know I'm going to the WMC this year with the Jets .. and to hear Freestyle isn't really represented.. now thats sad.. I was looking forward to meeting up with some of the freestyle peeps.. I agree that people should get together and bounce ideas off each other.. Its all about Networking right?? JMO

All I got to say is that for freestyle music to get back to the way it was back in the late 80's, the record labels need to "expose" themselves, the artist, and the new music. Don't stay underground or else freestyle will not imerge. Freestyle is a sleeping giant!

Thanks , Ill be there , Like Hec and Mr santana have Valid , Points we need to expose the genre hold serious discussions, Panels , marketing, Distro and band together and get our products taken seriously.

I may be going down for WMC. Are there any clubs in the area that play freestyle or where freestyle artists perform? I hear there's one in Coral Gables. Anyone know?
