😱 If you have Windows XP, watchout for the Blast Worm . This comes on when you get on the internet and about after five minutes you get a security warning that the system is going to shut down. If this occurs please call 800-Microsoft. Trust me it can be really annoying .

XP has a built in firewall 🙂 Well XP Professional anyway!

It just needs to be activated.

And it still sux. If you have broadband you should have either a hardware firewall or software firewall.

Thanks Jazzy but that was out about 6 months ago.
Just make sure you DON'T open any emails or attachments you don't know who the sender is. That's the surest way not to get any viruses.

An antivirus is the best way to prevent any kind of problem from viruses, worms, trojans, etc. Keep it up to date though. To prevent your personal information from being obtain by hacker(s), install a firewall. I am currently using Norton Antivirus and Zonelab professional to protect my computer with update.

Yo Krystal, how do u activate it? If u're runnin XP Professional? Or does it activate by itself?!

Go to your My Network Places,

if you do not see your connection click on view

Right click then click properties

Click Advance tab

Then check the box that says Internet connection firewall.

Then clcick OK to go out of all the boxes.

Done

This is only for Win XP.

i have my own helpdesk bizz that i run on the side. my major in school is computer science.if you download all the updates by microsoft you will be fine. when that worm was out in the summer my phone rang off the hook.
to activate the firewall that windows xp has, and by the way the home edition has it too, go to network connections. from there it will walk you through the steps. also disable remote access under computer management/services&applications.
remote access is needed for a hacker so when its disabled it is added protection. if you want any more tips plz let me know.

Also. FYI: That's good that you guys have those Anti-Virus programs but for those that have two or more different Anti's, your program will never work the way you want it to. Say for instance you have Norton and Mcafee at the same time. When you use one of them to detect a virus it will detect itself as the virus (not necesarilly meaning that you indeed have a virus) due to the dumb fact that you have installed two Anti programs on your hard disk simultaneously. So my advice would be to just have one Anti program installed at one time. Best one in my opinion is Norton.
