Why is it that Canada is still producing new freestyle songs, but New York and New jersey cant produce nothing new. Its like New York and Jersey forgot how to make freestyle. I'm talking about new music not just a bunch of remakes.

That's a great question Manny! I would probably follow-up by asking what the reason is for Toronto's obsession with Planet Rock! Here's another observation, the Canadian Artists are young, beautiful, and vibrant while most of their New York counterparts are.... Nevermind, the truth is New York has less flexibility when it comes to experimenting with new sounds, and those DJs/Producers out there struggling to maintain a Freestyle presence within the clubs or bars are often pressured by the selectivity of KTU to only highlight artists of yesterday! While Toronto looks to New York for roots + knowledge, New York must look up North for inspiration and energy.

P.S. There is no more New Jersey Freestyle (Metro), so all blameworthy parties must reside across the river!

I hate to disagree with you but I must. You are totally wrong when it comes to that. How can you say NEW YORK HAS NO FLEXIBILITY WHEN IT COMES TO EXPERIMENTING NEW SOUNDS?

I have to remind yo that it was SAL ABBATIELLO that experimented with FREESTYLE. not only that, he also lent his muscle in the HIP-HOP world. Sal took a big chance and it paid off. So, how can you say that NEW YORK is not strong enough?

FREESTYLE & RAP were born in NEW YORK.

without NEW YORK, this would be a friggin empty world!

My personal opinion on Canada's freestyle is this. I feel Canada can't interpret our music the way it should be and they try to make it up-to-date by using poppy chords and sometimes house music. They do have a few artists or songs that are NY style friendly. But I just dont like their flava where almost all their songs nowadays has a Robin Foxes- I See Stars appeal.

This music got to where it did once upon a time because it came from the streets. We knew where to take it and we knew our limits. We respected the music. Now it seems that others who have listened to us in the past have the wrong idea about freestyle and try to put out what they think is indeed freestyle. This music sounds like Britney Spears old stuff for crying out loud. Might as well call it POP. Maybe this is why Canada comes up with stuff and we dont. We just know our limits and if we know we cant produce something good for all of us....then were simply not going to do it.

Freestyle came from the streets......let's keep it that way!

And that my friends was an authentic Banner-Plug if I've never seen one before! Kenny, as far as Sal's concerned, a mammal only produces so much Milk. Sal took risks with Freestyle MANY YEARS ago, and continues to capitalize from this investment in a limited fashion. My suggestion would be to apply this logic onto the so called New York Freestyle Scene and you'll see only a limited amount of cows for an old lion like Sal to feed from. Manny's question is clear cut + to the point, Kenny, where's the innovation, creativity, or the willingness to take a risk in a new artist or sound? I should not have restricted my statement to include only New York, after all, New Jersey is now home to The GodFather Of Freestyle, who seems to be making headway these days and taking risks. Perhaps this is what New York Freestyle needs, a savior, someone to take them into the future.

well im gonna say this for those that went to backdrafts last week to mickey garcia's bday and saw these artists that where from canada doing their thing up on that stage was a total embarassment

not only did the majority of them suck, most of them had no kind of rhythm, most of them still look confuse whether to come out of the closet or not, their music sounded like it came from a fisher price juke box, didnt even move me a bit so what that tells u canada freestyle suck big 1's!!!

the only singer up on that stage that i like was zoe but thats bcuz she was a blond skinny little freak who had a slammin ass body and bcuz i got to see her panties :blah

now u wanna talk about good freestyle look at soave, nu image, clear touch, tonasia, willie valentin, exo, and more these guys rock the house at backdrafts they made the canadian singers look like roaches

so forget about the north, forget about their sound cuz its not all that we dont need to look up to them cuz let it be known that nyc is the birthplace of freestyle aight! it was the east coast who put freestyle on the map not canada or europe

ppl wanna talk about that when is it that the nyc freestyle scene gonna change, when is it that freestyle gonna be creative? well give it time ppl shit why the rush? as u can see right now there are alot of old skool and nu skool singers gettin ready to put out some new material thats gonna blow up and when it does comes out its all about the east coast baby!!

New York may be less flexible but I think that may have to do with the undeniable fact that Freestyle was created in this great city. Because of this I think Freestyle fans and the occasionally listener may expect to hear only the the real sound of Freestyle and the radio industry here knows it therefore artists and producers stick to the roots and characteristics of true Freestyle with quality artists
New York need not look anywhere for any inspiration, energy or the like ...we just know what Freestyle is!!
Or it may simply be that Canada may be experiencing what NY,Miami, & Philly experienced years ago...it's peak!

If you don't like what the artists in Canada are doing, then instead of insulting them on a web board, why don't you go and make some freestyle music of your own? Make it the way you think it should be done. Most of the good new freestyle comes from the WEST COAST and CANADA. New York productions are less frequent. So it is up to you to put New York back into its position as #1 city for freestyle. Until then, you're just being a hater,CoOl_AL_FrM_qNs. And by the way Zoe is not just a hot chick, she is really talented.

tarp obviously ur stupidity shows right there by what u just said cuz by ur coments i see that u dont know ur freestyle history

cuz for one- west coast and canada dont even make no good freestyle and whoever told u that must of have lie to u idiot

two- i never said i hated zoe i said she was the only one up on stage that i kind of like and the rest suck so what u sayin? u better go back and read what i type b4 u come at me with ur lame ass comments cuz i will set u str8

three- tarp im not a hater ok cuz u just piss off bcuz this new yorker told it to u like it is and u mad :lol i mean u not even from canada or the west coast and yet u come here makin urself look like a fool so how u figure?

like i said b4 canadian freestyle suck let it be known that it was in nyc where freestyle began not in canada, not in europe but in nyc!!

Who cares where freestyle began. I only care on where it's going. Whether it's Canada, New York, Germany, Miami, west coast, east coast, who cares? Everyone must work together to take it to new heights.

well said Tino. That's the way Freestyle will continue to live on....Everyone unites together as one big Club Freestyle Family and just keep puttin' out the Freestyle Jams no matter where you live or where you're from.

"the Canadian Artists are young, beautiful, and vibrant while most of their New York counterparts are.... Nevermind, "

They may not be as young anymore, but they are beautiful inside and out.
Just because they aren't a size 0 and don't have 'Britney -locks' doesn't make them 'Nevermind'. Some of them can outsing any well known singers out there who today, happen have no singing abilities but are famous because of their looks only. Or who they screw.
It has nothing to do with NY or Canada talent or lack of talent comes from everywhere.

In case you guys are wondering, Manny is not the Manny from Connecticut. Although he has the screen name Manny, my screen name here is Mannyriv. Ok now that we have that clear, let me say, I am glad that Canada is doing there thing and opening a market for freestyle in another country. However, I have noticed that instead of this causing unity it has caused yet again another issue that devides freestyle music. It is giving people another excuse to bring up the questions Who is better? Who is doing more for freestyle? Why not do our own thing. Why not bring more freestyle acts to Canada from the U.S. and the U.S. bring acts from Canada here. That should really be the issue here. That is what these forums are suppose to be about. We all had a great time at Mickey's party, and everyone came together for that one. Let's keep that same mind set going. It is what freestyle needs.

Peace,
Lil Manny,
the leg warmer wearing freestyle artist fron Connecticut and if you dont know, now ya know ...................
