You mean "Why did Philly leave Freestyle" 😛

I doubt Freestyle has ever left any state...it's always here. Its all about population and people embracing it. But unfortunately...it seems people went a different direction.

why did Freestyle Leave Philly?

I think the Reason why Freestlye Leave philly is because Freestyle was Really Hitting New york then Philly cuz Phill was more About Techno more then anything i use to live in Pa Allentown PA that was 🙂 :blah 😛 😱

TECHNO was huge here in NEW YORK also. FREESTYLE had its time and techno was coming in to the clubs to take over the dance genre. I had alof of friends that favored techno over freestyle. in 92, there were so many techno clubs in NYC as opposed to the FREESTYLE ones.

Joe,

Freestyle will never return to Philly. It is hard enough to get a concert let alone support from radio. When Hip-Hop & R&B took control of the airwaves in 1992, Freestyle was lost in the shuffle. Back in 1995 and 1996 when some new Freestyle was getting played in regular rotation on Q-102, the quality of the music was starting to go downhill again and that is why Philly radio won't give any of the new stuff a chance. Then again, what new Freestyle is really worthy or radio airplay? I really can't think of any!!!

Again, just my 2 cents...

I can't speak to that Philly station but Rhoq do any of these recent tracks sound radio friendly to you for other radio markets?

"Heaven" Eyra Gail (some radio)
"From The Inside" Lil Suzy
"Eyes of a Stranger" Safire
"Tonight" Collage

or new artists

"Love Goes On" Natalise
"Reminisce" Malyssa
"Turn The Lights Down Low" Christina Marie

Thats why many are urging freestyle artists to go with a new sound. if radio wont accept the old sound, how can we expect us, the fans to go with the old style. we complain that "freestyle" should remain with the old style. when they do, its not worth our time. then, they try something new, we hate it! we must learn to live and grow with what is coming. we cant change "destiny".

i know what you are talking about Rhoq philly has to many rap stations 99fm 1039fm and 102 plays rap im tired of hearin the same song when i put the radio on i guess i will just keep it off .

Philly radio still plays old school Freestyle (Stevie B., George LaMond, Coro, Cover Girls, Johnny O., Cynthia, Lisette Melendez, etc.)...

The problem is not the old School sound, the problem is that a lot of the newer Freestyle does not compare as far as quality is concerned. I believe that anything that the Santana Twins have produced are worthy radio play, some of Willie's work was worthy of radio play as well...

I have not heard any of the songs you have listed with the exception of the 3 from Adam Marano's camp...

"HEAVEN" by Eyra Gail - It is OK, but I don't think another remakes deserves all of the attention it has been getting. The original song by Bryan Adams was much better and I can hear that on 96.5 The Point (all 80's music). Eyra Gail's original (Euro) version of the song is the version that would most likely get radio play, if any, due to the fact it sounds like every other Euro/Dance song out there today. The Freestyle mix by Johnny Budz probably won't get much play beyond clubs and DJ Mixes...

"FROM THE INSIDE" by Lil' Suzy (Suzanne Casale or whatever name she is using nowadays) - I only heard this song once. At the time I heard it, I remember thinking to myself that this is the best song she has done in years. This song, if marketed correctly has a shot at radio success.

"TONIGHT" by Collage - I have the album Chapter 3, I've heard the Johnny Budz remix and not even remixing by Johnny Budz was able to save this song...
