I first logged onto this site yesterday, and was going over the forums, and I saw a couple posts talking about people's favorite freestyle songs being by Cyndi Lauper or Bon Jovi! Now come on now, that's not freestyle. I consider freestyle music to be from the mid-to-late 80's era, predominantly by Latin/Latina arists, but a good handful of exceptions within the White and Black communities. In the 80's a lot of songs that would be considered "pop" got remixed on 12" singles to a more dancy/freestyle sound. And often a lot of artists would have just a couple freestyle songs, and the rest "pop" on their albums. To me, freestyle music is Company B., Corina, Joyce Simms, The Cover Girls, Seduction, Freeeze, Johnny O., Shana, Expose, Jellybean Benitez, Taylor Dayne, Sweet Sensation, Pajama Party, Alisha, Claudja Barry, Phyllis Nelson, Cynthia, Nice And Wild, Nu Shooz, Nancy Martinez, Shannon, Nocera, and many others. I believe some of Madonna's early-mid 80's music could be considered freestyle music, check out the 12" extended remix of Madonna's "Who's That Girl"?, now if that's not a free style sound I don't know is!! LOL. And you may laugh, but some remixes from Paula Abdul in her "Forever Your Girl" album days could be considered freestyle; check out her album "Shut Up And Dance", now there's some great mixes on there! In closing, I think 80's music heavy in synth, percussion, and dance is considered freestyle...that's what I buy, and that's what I look for!! Jocelyn Enriquez definitely brought back freestyle in some of her songs, I had the opportunity of seeing her in concert, she's mostly "techno", but definitely a couple songs do have the freestyle-vibe (think "A Little Bit Of Ecstacy").
