Kenny I got to disagree with you on that one buddie Hip hop has evolved, artist within the industry look out for each other so that Hip Hop can continue to grow where in FS there is no real support form artist to artist. Hip Hop has in no way taken anything from any Genre, people refuse to see any change within FS not even a simple collabo. Rock has grown I mean shit there are so many forms of rock now, they have gone outside there genre and allowed its sound to mix with others. Hip Hop has also given life to R&B. Some of the greatest artist have gotten together and have help ensure that Hip Hop keep growing and it does and will continue to do. When you take form the old and give it some new only positive things can happen look at how the Isley Brothers some talented ass brothers are still goign strong because of Hip Hop and every other artist who wants to sample there music, these dudes is out there collaborating with todays artist and at first they were hesitant as well but look at them now. I am big Hip Hop fan as well as FS but fo sho fo sho HIp Hop has never taken away from any other genre it feeds itself it has no need to take from any other if anything it contributes to the others hollllllllllaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Only those like you Alex can make it come alive again. But you must have a lust to see the music be relevant again. Your views on hiphop were hateful and they were biased. There is more to hiphop than filth. Unfortunately mainstream radio forces the subject matter to be run of the mill but there are plenty of great records that leave more to the imagination than the music we get shoved down our throats everyday.

Ty Bless, I feel like you misunderstood me. I don't see my post as biased or hateful. My negative criticism was directly aimed at current mainstream hip hop/rap (meaning what's played on the radio). I was criticizing rap/hip hop with the explicit content. I specifically said this and also said that I have nothing against the genre in theory.

Again, I am not against the idea in theory, just against it with the CURRENT state of hip hop/rap.
You made a very good point and I agree with you:
There are love songs (among otehr styles) that are hip hop and I dont think one would ever want to compromise what freestyle is about. The sencerity of its lyrics of love and the hot dancable tracks. If you going to put some rap lyrics, like Tony did in Crash back in the day , you keep the subject matter on topic to the singing.
Like you said as long as the subject matter is on topic to the singing, I am all for collaborations. I don't want to see the day when I want to purchase a Freestyle cd and there's a "Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics" sticker on the cover. There have been a few instances where a rap inserted in a Freestyle song has worked. You mentioned TKA's Crash and there was also TPE's Then Came You, Korell's Paradise, and Del Sol's Tell Me Boy/Tell Me Girl. I think Lisette Melendez' Goody Goody had a hip hip flavor to it and the lyrics were a bit more explicit than most Freestyle, but it was still classy.

Im waking up from the dead to post on this.

Im running out to find this mix. this is very exciting news. now im not such a big hiphop fan only because i like teh beats but dont care for the image..and unfortunately reggaeton has adopted alot of that image but who cares..i love it anyway..LOL

Anyway..point being. I think this is mad cool for the simple fact that it can spur alot of new creativity and id love to hear some new things. you know this is how it all started in the first place, and i think its gonna sound good. when you start to combine different elements together it tends to take on a life of its own..and im ready to hear something new.

Ill step off my soap box now :)

No doubt Alex,

I didnt misunderstand you, I understand your whole vibe. You just don't want to see your baby act all grown. If its going to act that way, at least do it in a mature and classy way, and I don't think most fans would want to see any of the class sacrificed.

It was the one thing I loved about doing these freestyle shows. I knew going in I dont have to worry about getting shot, or getting caught in the cross fire, because everything was always on point and peaceful. So I understand.

Remember tho. Every child does grow up, and if there is that daring artist who wishes to express him or herself in a way that requires a parental advisory sticker, it might not be a terrible thing... love makes you curse more than anything else! lol So we shouldnt close any doors in the name of creativity.

You made great examples too. I remember being around Lissette during the Goody Goody era, and that direction only needed more followers, except not nearly enough artist in the genre followed suit to ensure it's growth.

I can feel a difference this time around. Keep your eyes peeled.... Ya might miss something...

100..
