I am in the never ending process of archiving my vynil into several formats, including MP3. Now I've been readin the CF posts and please correct me if I'm wrong. Once you have an MP3 File you have to upload it to a site that others can view or can you just email them?
Also if I am ripping an MP3 and It's from a 12inc single I should do individual MP3' for seach like the Dub, Accapurria,(My word) and Beats? Or just as one big trak?
Please holler if you kow?:crap

There are several ways to share MP3s. You can email them (if your and their email service support large enough files). Or you can use sharing software like Audiogalaxy, Morpheus or WinMX. In regards to the archive format, I suggest you rip the tracks into seperate files rather than one large MP3. Good luck.

MP3 info

Dude:

You can e-mail just about anything through AOL or any other ISP, provided that the file you are sending does not exceed the limits they set. With most ISPs, the limit is like 5 MB, so you should be able to send most MP3 files encoded at 128 kb/s or less. I know that the limit with AOL is much larger than 5 MB.

The choice of ripping a record as 1 continuous track or a separate track for each song is really up to you. If you rip the songs at 128 kb/s quality, then each minute of a song will be about 1 MB, so most songs will be between 3 to 5 MB. If you have 10 songs on that record, then you’re looking at approximately a 50 MB file, which is pretty large. E-mailing a 50 MB file is not the best thing to do, especially if you don’t have cable or DSL. Even if you could e-mail that file, most systems will reject it because of the size. So, if you plan on sharing the songs that you have ripped from 12”, then it would probably be best to rip them as separate tracks.

You can transfer MP3 files just like any other files by using some of the programs mentioned by Eluder or you can set up an FTP server or find some place that gives you free space to store files (although some my restrict MP3 files).

In case you didn’t know, MP3s encoded at 128 kb/s, where each second of a song will take up 128 kilobits, is pretty much the standard and it is almost CD-quality and is much better than vinyl, tape, or radio. Personally, I rip everything at 160 kb/s. You’d have to have really good hearing and a good audio system to tell the difference between 128 kb/s and anything higher.

Piece.

Thanxs guys

Please be gentle this girlie is just learning MP3 (it was bad enough learning to spin CDs I still prefer Vinyl)
But I think I gotcha, so then a mixed MP3 thats like 74 minutes would have to go up on a ftp server(?) or did I just make someone chuckle? thanks for info aziangambino. I think I'll go read the manual again.

And Freestyle4life I just signed up for that new (to me) 4.2 AIM I definately like it. Now when I'm ready I can go out and share as much as I want.😛

Hey Girl (not Dude this time):

I didn't mean to overwhelm you with all that info. Just take what you can from it. And no, you don't have to use FTP [chuckles]. FTP is just another means of transferring files over the Internet. Transferring files is not something to concern yourself with at this point, since you just started ripping. That's something you can look into later and there's tons of info out there on that.

😎

Thank you kindly Sir I most def will be searching for more info I am tunring into a ripping demon:blah
That is if I can ever get off this web site :stoned
