Yes, I would say she was a freestyle singer, at least for her first album. Her top hit was "I want you" and I can remember hearing that song in tons of freestyle compilations and collections.
Shana in my opinion falls into the "one hit wonder" category. If you listen to the rest of her songs on the first album, they sounded freestyle for sure but unfortunately only "I want you" really took popular. This could be why there was not much talk about her more in this present time.
After her first album in 1989, she didn't come out with another album until 1999, ten years later and also went by her full name Shana Petrone. This second album "Something Real" was clearly not freestyle as she decided to go the country / folk music type. This could of also led to newer freestyle listeners shying away from her as well.
