I see alot of commenting on not giving the freestyle artists a chance w/ thier new stuff...& people being picky..etc.. let them evolve as artists..& so on. well from a FAN's point of view let me give this a shot....

We all know we can NOT turn back the clock to the days of old....HOWEVER freestyle has a way of taking us there 😀

As a FAN I am looking for that OLD school flavor. you can make new songs... new lyrics, but don't go away from that old flavor. it worked before & you have so many people asking for it now.

YES artists evolve..& have to try new things...BUT here is something... HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN since a true legend of freestyle put out a FREESTYLE album. Cynthina did an awesome job back in the late 90's w/ If i had the chance...
SEE that was a feestyle artist, doing a freestyle album...& succeeding in satisfying the crave for new...WITHOUT sacrificing the sound.. or selling it out w/ any fancy samples.

Here is another point... when TPE released "then came you" & Collage did "I'll be loving you"... Freestyle as it we knew it was pretty much Dead..mainstream... BUT I heard these songs NOT only on 1 station...BUt all OVER & they were played 'til they were killed... WHY?????
B/C they had the old school flavor..BUT they were NEW & they satisfied what WE as Freestyle Fans were looking for.

Artists have every right to try new things.... BUT for whatever reason..they do so after a LONG LONG time.... they come back w/ something new... that no one wants to hear b/c we've been waiting 8 or 10 yrs... for some new freestyle. AND don't tell me they are evolving FREESTYLE... 1st off you don't take 10 yrs to evolve a music genre or style... a couple maybe.

An artists like Madonna...for instance, she has certainly left her mark on the music world..SHE has evolved...BUT it was over many years of diff. music styles.. she didn't just wake up 1 day..do her album & change... she evolved over time...she wasn't away for 8 or 10 yrs...

FReestyle is what it is.... it IS what we remember it to be....KNOW it to be.... STOP giving us everything BUT....
Lay it down like you did before... it worked once..& it was HUGE...it CAN work again.. esp. NOW....
don't try a new sound...for freestyle... give us what worked before... it was NEVER broke..so don't fix it...
don't computerize it... Just write those Heartbreaking life stories...& throw down the slamming beat...
IF YOU BUILD IT------------->>>WE WILL COME!!!!!!

my intent was not to upset or pick at anyone..or artist..& i firmly believe..an artist should try anything... BUT if you're gonna be away for 10 yrs.... DON'T come back w/ some new style...b/c if we're looking for you..or anticipating you...we want freestyle...like before...
try your NEW stuff.... just don't sell it as freestyle...
you as an artist deserve BETTER than us ripping you for not giving us what we were looking for..AND
We as a freestyle fan..don't deserve to be duped into listening to something far removed from freestyle...!
it still may be great....BUT FREESTYLE STANDS ALONE..THERE IS NOTHING...NOTHING ELSE QUITE LIKE IT.....!
:blah

What you're saying about freestyle music is cool... so as a freestyle fan I agree with you.

But on another level, as a fan of artists... I want to add that we should still support them if they decide to make different music. As an example, personally, I waited for TKA to come back... with anything!! As long as they were making music, I was happy. It's not fair to sort of "disown" them just because they want to try other things. You've got to decide if you want to be a fan of the artist, or of a particular type of music. Ya know? We shouldn't rip them apart for doing other things. 🙂

Yeah that's more like it - that's the Kenny Guido I know and love!!!

🙂

i love freestyle.but i also love the artists...i want these artists to be able to express themselves because they are talented...but as long as they dont forget us the fans...its kool...i have been saying freestyle is makin a comeback...but with so many hostile fans out there...i wonder why they are taking so long....

Honestly - I do not believe Freestyle will ever make a comeback. The artists/producers/labels were given a chance back in 1995 and they blew it...Radio will never take Freestyle music seriously again.

i tend to ask - what's more important to you - freestyle music or the artist who brought you the music.

the artist behind the music is more important to me - therefore i will support whatever type of music they record, as long as it sounds good to my ear and their style impresses me.

if you are a true fan of the artist, you will continue to support whichever road they decide to take.

rhoq - i hate to say this, but i think your right - and i think the pioneers of freestyle think the same and that is why they are taking a different direction with their music.

this genre of music, as important as i think it is in music history is not respected or taken seriously. it is never mention in the media, or in retrospective music shows,etc...

this genre of music is important, it was the first time that young english speaking latinos had music to relate to (aside from salsa) and it drew a very, very large audience across the country and made mega stars out of SAFIRE, TKA, GEORGE LAMOND, SWEET SENSATION, ETC....

but i don't think radio is ready to embrace it once more, like disco it happen and was very big, but now we can just enjoy the memories.

Kenny, you had me shocked as well for a moment!! lol

Rhoq, it will never come back is my opinion as well. It's not the end of the world though...as I always say, that's what cd's, records and cassettes are for...oh wait it's the year 2002...and MP3's!! LOL

I will agree with RHOQ and LOCO.(shocked RHOQ)...lolololol

I will never forget my fans, as you see I love the fans(true fans) but will they still embrace me if I decide to go in a different direction? or will the time we've shared here on this board remain just that, time on the board. I don't plan on making another freestyle album, because to be honest with you it will not go anywhere, but a few clubs here and there. I done my share of Freestyel (which is and always will be my favorite type of genre) but I also intend to spread my wings no matter what. I hope to see at least a handful of you still there with me, or with any other artist that decides to spread their wings.

Kenny - the problem with the new blood is that they do not seem to have the passion one needs to carry on with the sound that we adore. Furthermore, alot of these new productions can't even compare to the Freestyle music of yesteryear!

All I am saying from the "When is Freestyle going to make it's comeback" POV - my answer would be NEVER. I am in no way saying that it is time for our artists to abandon Freestyle and/or move on to other genres...

My dear then what should a freestyle artist do, since freestyle will make a comeback? they can't just sit there and keep producing or singing music that is just going to collect dust. that is not logical thinking. I understand that you wouldn't want them to change genre but they have to live physically as well and emotionally, and by being in a place that is not going to move forward can't be a good thing. I hope the new"Blood" can make it happen, and if they do I'll give them major props. I love my freestyle, reason being why I still do shows, because it ain't for the money the clubs are paying!..lolololol, just the thought of that cracks me up!.lol

I am not really asking anyone to choose whether they want to support the artist or not. I also stated that I TOTALLY support the idea of trying new things.... for example..I waited for TKA..I got TKA..a new TKA..something I wasn't looking for... i heard the album & decided it wasn't for me. BUT I bought the album..& I still will go see them perform... hands down. HOWEVER.. on that album..is "When will I C U"
I don't like the album version... HOWEVER..the "freestyle" version of this song...w/ the (dare I say it) "Play at your own risk" sample.. is OLD school...in my book...is OFF the HOOK.

as far as the NEW school guys go.... lets do it... I saw Nick Colon at Bliss... he's off to an awesome start...w/ alot of support...

I guess it's just being a selfish fan. it's very hard to be dedicated to type of music..& look to hear from the stars that made it so powerful..& have them NOT be there anymore.

Naya.... I'd love to hear some new freestyle from you.. BUT as an artist, if thats not your direction anymore... thats cool... & I promise...I'll give anything you do a chance. ALL of the OUR freestyle artists deserve THAT much support...

Kenny..I got nervous..when you said "My thoughts exactly"... I had a feeling you didn't agree w/ the whole content of my post.. BUT thats cool...
I am Just a 28 yr old form the Boogie down... thats wants his Coro!!!
Old school

Rhoq, supporting the artist is fine, BUT not for the sake of just doing it. I'd like to enjoy what I support. if an artist I like puts out something I don't care for... Iam not going to push it just b/c it's so & so...
I am a HUGE KISS fan... (concerts & all)...BUT they've had a few albums over the last 6-7 years that were horrible.... I still love the band... BUT I didn't encourage anyone to buy the albums.
If i am gonna stand behind anything... it's going to be b/c to me..it warrants my support.... NOT b/c xyz artist made it..

My love to all of CF...., where THE freestyle HEART still BEATS

Nyasia -

As with most of our favorite artist, especially the ones who has been in this business for the last 15 years, you know what you need to do to keep your career alive (if that is what you choose).

You may lose some fans, but you will pick up some new ones. But the dedicated ones will stay with you forever, because the artist means soo much more to them then just the music they sing.

Rhoq - i agree with you about the "passion" , i have seen a few of these "new school artists", and personally speaking the excitement just isn't there, but nevertheless, i wish them the best.
