I came across this on Migente.com.........It was published on UrbanLatino Magazine. For all interested here it is:
This summer, if you turn on the radio, it`s almost guaranteed that within 10 minutes you`ll hear the infectious smash hit by a young Latina from Spanish Harlem. Lumidee, the singer/songwriter of "I`ll Never Leave" (better knows as the "Uh-Oh song") is flying off the charts with her catchy dance hit all over the hottest hip hop and R&B stations across the country.
Lumidee Cedeno, a 19-year old Nuyorican, has always had hip hop dreams. "When I was 12 I used to rap, but I never put anything on paper. I`ve always loved music, but never thought it could be a real career choice for me. Then I saw artists like Missy and Mary J...girls from the hood like me. That really inspired me. So around the age of 15 I took on writing a lot of poetry, and so the poetry mixed with beats gave me my music." Lumi says her dreams became a reality when she shared her rhymes with friend DJ Ted Smooth, who signed her with Straight Face Records in 2000.
When asked how she was handling the pressures that come with being in the spotlight, she responded, "You know, people will always try to market you. But it`s harder if you`re Spanish, because people expect more. They`re like, `say sexy things in Spanish` or `wear something sexier`. I feel first and foremost people need to respect you as an artist. Me being Puerto Rican is a big part of who I am, but my music is my music."
Lumi`s album, Almost Famous, was released on June 24th. It features well-known artists such as Busta Rhymes and Fabulous with the "Uh-Oh" remix, NORE, Handsome Joe, Buck Wild and more. Lumi promises to bring a true original style to the hip hop industry. "I think I have this mixture of all types of music that the public is ready for, besides, my dad always told me he gave me a rock stars` name."
Dad hooked her up with the name, but her producers left her hanging with this album. Everyone is feeling "I`ll never leave," but the rest of the album is just OK. She`s going to have to do a little better to be more than a one hit wonder.
