I was wondering........

If I was a Garth Brookes Fan and had bought all his past cd's and been to alot of his shows......If he decided to release a Hip-Hop album because he wanted to get more radio play than country music did........would I buy his new CD even though I disliked Hip-Hop?

I believe in supporting an artist 110% when that artist is doing things you as a consumer like and enjoy. I find fault in supporting someone just because you have done so in the past. This in my opinion sends a false signal to an artist that they are now liked for their new music. And this will certainly lessen the chance of them recording music which you originally supported them for.

I support Freestyle.....this is the music I like....this is the music I love.....to each his own. Props to the new school artists,Freestyle file, CPR and gang, Jack G, Groove magazine, and any one else who supports Freestyle.

Goin with your scenario here...

IF I liked Garth doing hip hop then sure I'd purchase it but not just cuz I like Garth. I wouldn't fault him for trying something new but if I didn't like that something NEW...forget about it! 😛

OK, lets ask all the artists to keep doing freestyle till thier toungues fall out. :rolleyes

Do you even think that there is an original sound left that they can utilize as a freestyle tune?

NOPE!!!

They will sell a few hundred songs and thats it if it were freestyle.

as least with a new direction, they can say they did music other than freestyle.

They want to make money, not go on welfare.

While were at it, lets ask GLORIA GAYNOR to make a new DISCO SONG! Im sure that will sell!

I'd buy it. One- cus I love Disco. And two, homegirl is a true Diva.....go on now go....

lol carlito, but a large percentage of people wont but it.

to boot, I dont think a label would gamble on recording a sound that was 30+ years old.

Yeah, I think it was. It was a dance cd. They had an updated sound.
I have to hear it then. I dont think it would survive in this day and age. perhaps a remix or a greatest hits album.

I know I heard a new song of hers on KTU a while ago . Although it sounded "dance' it didnt sound like disco.

Why I love this threads

You are correct in your statement when you say artist should try other genres of music, but I find fault in the other things you say Kenny.

1. Sounds.....has nothing to do with music. If that were the case, every rock band that consisted of a drummer, lead guitar, rythm guitar and bass would find it hard to sell records. But that doesn't seem to stop Coldplay, Dave Mathews Band, AeroSmith or Metalica from selling millions.

2. I don't believe I said support Bad Freestyle as long as it's freestyle. I am very picky when it comes to freestyle. I believe in good music wether it be dance, rock, hip hop or R&B. It still has to be something I can listen too.

3. I never said artist should stick to one genre. I merely stated that artist should not forget where they came from. Give me something I remember you by or something similar and let me sit on the other music for a while and see if I like it. I do believe that is the whole idea behind doing an album. Trying something new. But I find fault in cases where an artist totally abandons the genre in which they first started out.

4. Disco......If you think that a new disco record released today wouldn't sell then you have no Idea who Jamariquo is. (sorry, for the misspelling)

Kenny i tend to disagree with you Freestyle. Freestyle is alive and is starting to have fresh new sounds with the Right producers. Jessica Marin and AYna are two Perfect examples. They are truely Freestyle artist but yet incorporate a dance music vibe and in fact Jessica has a little rap edit with Prime Time of Boss status entertainment that is rocking nothern Jersey. Nu Imae has a 2004 sound to it but they messed up by having every song sound the same. Rockell has a breakbeat sound that is pure freestyle yet dance to and is tearing up the airwaves when ever she releases a song.

exactly, Carlito!!!!

Let me rewind to 1990:

I remember on Sundays on HOT 97, they used to dedicate a couple of hours to disco classics.I dont think there was any other station on the radio that played disco or the rare disco songs that HOT 97 played on Sundays.

But, I used to say to myself: "it must suck to be a disco fan and having to resort to a 2 hour show on a sunday just to hear thier classic disco tunes"

Guess what? Were re-living what the disco fans went through......except we have a little more airplay. but its the same scenario: having to resort to special radio shows to hear out hits.

Pete, but were not hearing it on the radio!!!!!!

if it were that good, dont you think radio would have snatched it up and added it to thier playlists months ago? come on now!!!!

Im not saying they arent good but if radio doesnt play them, who will know about them?

I think they are great but radio doesnt want to play a tune that sounds "dated". they would rather go with a current sound.

I know who he is.🙂

I cant spell it either!

But he isnt necessarily trying to go around as the new poster child for "disco". His sounds are unique, with the clever mixture of all types of sounds, sorta like FATBOY SLIM. He may use some of the disco beats but they are cleverly disguised.

BTW.........where has he been lately?

You are so wrong my bro. Freestyle has reinvent it self to a newer sound a song By Ayna doesnt should like a song for Cynthia from the 80s much like Sk8 who Sang "My Imagination" didnt sound like an 80s freestyle song yet got much air play on a select few radio stations across america including Party 105 in NY. Just because radio doesnt play a certain style of music doesnt mean crap. NY doesnt have a country station but hell most of the US listens to it still. People have to realize most of the dance music out now would be freestyle back in the days like Tina Ann and Kim Souzi.

Left turn.........

As this thread has taken a left turn from support to sound and airply.....I can add my 4 cents.....

I recently purchased a few rock cd's to see if freestyle was indeed the only genre suffering from sounding too much alike.

Red hot chili peppers.....except for a few songs they all sound the same...same sounds songs............2 million + sold

Nickleback............all the songs sounded the same....some slow and and some fast...........4 million + sold

Linkin Park.........sound similar..........4 million + sold

Cold Play.....a little bit better then the previous mentioned.......still sounded the same since they all use the same instruments............3 million + sold

Evanecense......One of my favorite cd's to date....sounds like hard core freestyle if you ask me......but again, alot of the songs sound the same..........5 million plus sold

All these cd's basically stuck to a formula that rock has been using for the last 15 years....1 or two radio freindly songs and the rest of the album sonds the same. Mybe a different tempo here and there but there are only so many ways to make a guitar sound different. A drum kit is always gonna sound the same. Bass is Bass except with a some extra top end on it. So don't tell me that the reason freestyle doesn't sell is because it sounds the same.

And we won't even touch on the genre of country that basically sounds the same for the last 30 years.

FREESTYLE hasnt reinvented itself!!!!!!!! what are you talking about?????????

freestyle has had the same sound for over 20 years!!!

where has it reinvented itself?

just because theres 1 new beat doesnt mean theres been a rebirth!

THE MUSIC that TINA ANN and KIM SOUZI record would not be considered FREESTYLE BACK IN THE DAY.

IT WOULD BE CONSIDERED "HOUSE" JUST AS IT IS TODAY. THEY ARE "HOUSE" ARTISTS.
