If you had to define FreeStyle by giving one song as the perfect example of the genre, what would that song be?

My choice would be Shavonne's "So, Tell Me, Tell Me" because of the pretty lyrics, clever vocal sampling, nice chord progressions, and the editing.

I also think Old School FreeStyle is the best

Hey...

I hope you're not calling me dumb, but if you are, I will overlook it...this time.

I, too, agree that Old School FreeStyle is the best, but I also like the New School FreeStyle...with an Old School twist.

Keep 'Styling,

lisa lisa "i wonder if i take u home" one of the first and most popular first "freestyle" records!

and dont forget....INFORMATION SOCIETY was a new wave (synth pop) group that "crossed over" so to give them the prize is a little too premature. my song is "show me" by the covergirls. that was my official "into freestyle" song. i mean, i listened to the other greats before "show me" but i think that song well defines the "freestyle". 🙂 as for shavvone "so tell me" what year was that released in? how can you call that "the offial freestyle" song when it came out so late in the game?

Read my intial post in this thread.

Kenny Da Guido,

My question was which song is your perfect example of the genre: "If you had to define FreeStyle by giving one song as the perfect example of the genre, what would that song be?"

My question made no reference to chronology, so any FreeStyle song will suffice. It's a matter of preference. For me, it's Shavonne, and for you it's the Cover Girls.

Stevie B

I think Stevie B's "Spring Love" is such a classic freestyle track. I can never listen to that song too many times.

I agree with everything xbrooklyngirl said..since Im from Brooklyn too. I think there are so many freestyle songs that define the word freestyle...How about all those TKA classics like One Way Love, Scars of Love, and Tears May Fall? Other songs would be Change On Me by Cynthia, Spring Love by Stevie B, Hooked On You by Sweet Sensation, Because of You by the Cover Girls, Bad of the Heart by George LaMond, and the list goes on and on and on....

Without A Doubt...

Way too many songs to list, but, some that come to mind are: TKA-Come Get My Love, Tears May Fall, Scars of Love, etc. George Lamond-Without You, Bad of the Heart, Look Into My Eyes, etc. Nyasia's Now and Forever, Suave-Crying Over You, Exo-Why Did You Do It, Cover Girls-Show Me, Cynthia-Change On Me, Endless Night, Latin Rascals, like I said, too many... And Almost anything Little Louie Vega used to spin at "The Devil's Nest" up in da Bronx, and at "Heart-Throbs"(Best Freestyle club since the beginning)! Remember those spots?!! SeeYa!!

I think Judy Torres "No Reason To Cry" sums up freestyle the best....the beat, the sound, the voice, the lyrics...its all there

I always thought successive Freestyle music was based on the Expose formula. I'd say "Point Of No Return". But I could also go for "Give Me Tonight" by Shannon which sounds like Freestyle in it's purest form. But a lot of Freestyle songs followed after Expose and started using that syncopated lead synthesizer sound.

Everytime someone asks me for an example of a freestyle song, i always mention "Spring Love" by Stevie B. To me that is the Freestyle anthem.

Nayobe - "Please Don't Go," the first and all-time best for me.

first let me say

shavonne. so tell me tell me is back in da day freestyle....but anyway ummm i think of ummmm ummmm lets see....my sweet love...then theres destiny by bettina..ummm no reason to cry stuff like that ooooooooooooooo terashed by mkg thats the song i think of

i think that everyone's right. freestyle is what we want it to be. and therefore, we take it for what it is....
