Here I sit, on a day just like any other
And without warning my cheek feels a bother.
One lone tear, then many more
Slides on down and lands on the floor.
I'm not feeling particulary down,
So why on earth do I cry now?
Perhaps it's a piece of dust in my eye,
Brought for irritation on the wing of a fly.
Maybe the lamp causes a glare,
Making me squint way down there.
I know, it is a sign of fatigue,
It must be that, not a sign to grieve.
Oh, I wish it was so mundane a thing,
That is making my eye sting,
But as honesty forces me to admit,
There's more than enough to be sad within.
My one true love is far away,
I see pain and suffering more each day,
My family is moving on without me,
I have to admit I'm getting lonely.
Ones that I love have passed on,
They've gone to heaven to share a song.
Childhood passing,
Bad memory hashing,
Words left unsaid,
Sharing an empty bed,
War in the east,
Fear of the beast,
Growing apart,
A broken heart,
Famine and disease,
Hearts so cold they could freeze.
Aye, there's much to cause a tear,
To turn to the bar for one more beer,
But this one offering of grief,
Is not going to make my happiness brief.
It gives me a moment to silently remember
Not just sorrow, but the reason why I mutter.
I have love inside me, from each of my tears,
Given by lovers, family and peers.
So, I cry now, not for the pain,
But for the love I feel once again.
And without warning my cheek feels a bother.

Slides on down and lands on the floor.
