Engraved upon my chest is a tattoo of my heart
A reminder of many years
Days of laughter and happiness
And nights of pain and tears
Years of memories that flash through my mind
Pulsing like the blood in my veins
And times that I was left feeling neglected and torn
Without ever knowing who to blame
Like a faucet - I want to turn my emotions off
Wishing not to feel anymore
To bottle it up and throw it deep in the sea
Or to bolt it behind a cast iron door
I would think that's why I was put on this earth
Maybe this has always been my purpose
To care for those who are deeply in need
And even for those that don't deserve it
