My first taste of freestyle was seeing the original Cover Girls on stage
at Flushing Meadow Park in Queens ,NY .I can recall seeing thousands of people of all ages in the wide open grass field and the big stage up front (It was like our generation Woodstock).
This was in June of 87' and they had it every summmer after that .
All the major radio stations were there ,Hot 103.5 ,WBLS ,Z-100.
I saw Judy Torres on stage also ,she was wearing short tight spandex biker pants and performed for quite sometime ."Broadway Bill Lee" was the M.C .
Freestyle was the only music going on at this time and all the major players were there it is something I'll never forget , I can still picture the Cover Girls performing and what they were wearing and all the songs that they sung . I still thank my friend for taking me ,as I was only 14 at the time .
Does anyone out there rememer being there ? If so I'd love to hear from you and what stands out in your mind the most about that special weekend ?
I know they no longer have the Queens Day Festival !
