I heard on the news that a hispanic worker said something to his supervisor in spanish and the customer he was attending to was pissed and commented that it's rude to talk in spanish. She said for all she knows they could've been talking about her.

Now this has it's pros and cons to it. I understand that the other person doesn't understand the language but it doesn't mean that spanish people are always talking about them. Chinese people speak their language all the time and society isn't offended by it, nor do they think that they're being spoken about.

Plus another thing, although this is america, I disagree with that customer when she told the supervisor, "this is america and everybody should be speaking english." Ummmmmmm I say this, it's funny how it's america and everyone should be speaking english but yet in High School, it's mandatory that students take up a language for credits and to become a doctor today, it's mandatory to learn spanish as a 2nd language.

So people today need to get used to it and deal with the spanish speaking people. Because I really have a problem with it when it's older people like someone's grandparents who don't know any english and they're mistreated because of the language barrier. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it's always right to speak spanish, because we do have those rude people that just want to bust chops but when it's not intentional it's just not intentional.

*Thank you for reading* 🙂

That person may be a little off. You nor I wouldent think that would be a big deal but I guess that person did. Now look at this..On ClubFreestyle I prefer people post in english because it is a common language that we ALL can understand. I speak a foreign language but communicate to others in english to ensure eveyone can understand.

Oh whatever.

How insecure are you, that you automatically assume that because people are speaking in a different language, that they are talking about you????

And I agree with you Chuck. It is insecurity. I don't even pay attention to Chinese or pakestanians when they're talking in their language.

Hey if I say something you don't understand, please tell me. I'll be happy to translate. 🙂

That is so stupid, I don't understand why anyone will get offended by that. It doesn't offend me when other people speak a different language in front of me. The customer is either an idiot or was having a bad day.

🙂

If someone really wanted to know what you are saying, they can go to an online translation site, and cut and paste what you said to that site, and get the translation for free.

The bottom line is, there are many wackos in this world. Sometimes they are locked behind closed doors, in a comfy padded cell, exactly where they belong, and sometimes they pop up at the neighborhood Starbucks. Sometimes they even listen to freestyle music and sign up for freestyle websites (no names here, please! LOL) but whatever - I believe that this is America, and yes, everyone should speak at least some English, if only to make managing life in this country a lot easier (I can;t imagine being in China and not being able to ask directions, or how much something costs, etc) - but if they feel like saying a phrase or two in another language to a fellow foreign language speaking co-worker, it is NOBODY'S BUSINESS. If they were being rude TO the customer by looking at her, laughing and whispering to each other in Spanish then I could see, but let's face facts - SOMEBODY ORDERED UP A LITTLE FRUITCAKE WITH THEIR COFFEE!!!

I thought most people knew about this......

you can go to freetranslation.com and there is a window for cut and paste purposes.

If you and Henny posted something in Spanish to each other, I can copy it from here, go to the other site, and paste it there, and the site will translate it into English, for the most part. Slang and swears don't work.

I used this site when I was writing in the novella, so my characters could talk in "Spanglish".

It works for a variety of languages.
