How far should a lie go when telling your child or someone else telling your child? Do you think it's necessary to lie to them for whatever the reasons may be? Do you feel there's a certain age when children should be told the truth? Remember this goes for any situation.

I tried always to never tell my kids lies. If like my 4 yr old now, I needed to explain something to him, I still try to tell him the truth. He may not understand totally, but I try to find ways.

Anybody want to share stories here on how you tell your kids the truth?

It's difficult, you don't want to lie, but at the same time, sometimes young kids dont need to know the whole truth.
Whenever necessary I try to sugar coat things or phrase it so it's not entirely the truth but also not really a lie either.

I"ve learned that you have to be careful what you say to kids.

i think you should tell children the truth. no matter how drastic the situation a child needs to know. if you lie to them about something they may resent (sp) you for it.

No kids here yet but I've always dealt with them...whether when I was working at a daycare or with my friend's children...

Never lie to them cuz it may come back to haunt you one day. If said child finds out the truth from somewhere else then they'll starting thinking that everything you tell them isn't the truth and you've lost something precious with that child. The bond of trust. 🙂

I agree with you Krystal on children finding out the truth through other means. Which is why no matter how young, I don't lie to them. I don't want anything being thrown in my face later on when they're older and understand the whole situation.

I think I maybe too honest with my kids sometimes!..lol I dont' lie to them about anything.

that's true partygirl!..lol I heard ya got a huge amount of stranded visitors up in New Orleans!..lol

oh yeah Partygirl is your new name!..LOL

soem ships collided in the mississippi river making it hard for the cruise ships to leave girl! you have't been watching your news?..LOL

OoOhhhhh! That's what you meant. Yeah I've heard about that. The wreck has the whole shipping lane closed down. The did recover 3 of the 5 missing crewmen though. 🙁

You know it's like the thread by one of our CF members (forgot who it is) that she started in the Shoutout section.......it was about her little girl coming home very upset because 3 other girls told her she couldn't play with them in the playground because she isn't white.

Our kids have to be told the truth about racism. It very much exist as much as we teach our kids not to be prejudice. So in a situation like that, I PERSONALLY would've told my daughter that there are other people that don't like others because of their skin color, because they speak differently, etc. It hurts when a child has to go through something like this. Which is why it's important to not lie to them about anything. That story hurt my heart. 🙁

I am always honest with my kids. They are my best friends. I used to think there were things they didnt need to know, but if they ask I do my best to explain it in a way they can understand if not I just blurt out the truth and that is that. They laugh at me alot because of the way I talk to them. But I do still have them believing in Santa and the Tooth Fairy LOL.

That was My little Girl Betty. I told her as best I can...She was feeling much better during the evening. Had a ton of questions, and I answered every single one. The next day I went to School sat down with the school Social Worker. Let her know what happened, It was very easy because she was a friend I once worked with. She told me she would also speak to my daughter and the other girls too see what happened. I did find out that the little girls that were Rude my Kiana were only in KIndergarten. It is a bIg shame at such a young age this happened.

Yes mama, my heart went out to your little girl when I read that. I'm so sorry that she had to experience this at such a tender young age. Hope she's okay now.
