Although I knew ahead of time, it still put a lump in my throat when SaFire announced her retirement of Freestyle at Club Blis.
I felt that a post of THANK YOU is the least I can do....

Since 1986, Wilma "SaFire" Cosme has given us classic music, videos and phat ass shows. Myself like many others am a fan since day one, I still remember the day I bought your first album and what a rush it gave me.

In 2001, she released her last album "Bringing Back The Groove" which many do not know, was a album dedicated to her fans as a thank you.
You can atleast say you had the last Freestyle song on rotation on major radio stations with "Can You Stand The Rain".

Now, retirement...
Well, its now my turn.
Let me be the first to say THANK YOU.
Thank you for years of hard work.
Thank you for your slammin classics.
Thank you for your new music.
Thank you for being a real person.
Thank you for caring and thinkin of us, your fans.
THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!

Sa Fire, you are among the greats and we love what you have done for Freestyle/Dance. Good luck with your future works. I have always supported you and will continue to do so. You are a professional and classy person. I always felt the passion that you have for Freestyle and your fans.

Let me end off by saying this. I have been a dj for over 21 years now and have struggled along the way. Talking and meeting the artist was always my best reward from this and when I finally met you last year, I felt like a teen meeting Justin or Britney, lol.
You heard my edit mix and loved it. How cool was that? And from there, Felix brought me to you at Club Ohm, on 6/29/01. I remember being so nervous, lol. From there, I met legendary producer and husband, Kenny Diaz and super promoter, Angel.
We have become friends and I will cherish that always.
A quick thanx to Felix for all you done to get us together.

It has been a pleasure meeting you and your family.
It is so cool talking to you on the phone just shooting the sh*t.
And one final thanx for asking me to do your remix. It is an HONOR !!!

Much Love,
Martin "D.J. Paradise" Santiago

For those who havent heard it, here is my edit mix and tribute to my favorite Freestyle artist,....... "SaFire"

Very sad indeed.

Good luck to you Safire. "Bringing back the groove" is one of my favorite albums... Thank you.

Well, I personally don't know Safire, but I hear Naya talk so great about her and so I know she must be an awesome person. As Paradise said...I too had the pleasure of meeting her on Sunday. It was brief, but I got to take a picture with her and I too was soooo excited and honored to be by her side. I love all her music and think she is a wondefully talented woman. I wish her much success in all her future work and hope to meet her again in the future. Thank you Safire for giving us such great music and for being so real with your fans!!!! Love ya!!!!!

Thats terrible. Im a big fan. I wonder why ? She still has more to give. I think she should still record music and not stop. Her last song received rotation on KTU and she was heading in the right direction. But who knows maybe she wants to relax or do something else, show business is tough. Singing in a smoky club at 2 a clock in the morning is not as exciting as it looks. I can undersatnd artists if they need a break.

Sa-Fire:

Thank you for so many years of music. It was such an honor to see you perform at Blis show #2, because I can share my memory with my mother, who had the privelege of seeing you back in the 80's(I wasn't old enough then)and a part of me died when you announced your retirement at #3. I have much love for you and all your songs, but I want to thank you the most for bringing "Thinking Of You" to us. I'm fighting back tears as I write this because that song meant so much to me then as it does now. All the best of love and luck to you, girl! And God Bless

TRULY A DIVA

SAFIRE, IT HAS BEEN A PLEASURE LISTENING TO
YOUR MUSIC SINCE YOU FIRST STARTED. YOUR UNIQUE
VOICE CAPTIVATED MANY AUDIENCES! YOU ARE WITHOUT
A DOUBT "TRULY A DIVA" IN FREESTYLE & IN ~ANYSTYLE~.
IT WAS A PLEASURE MEETING YOU AT BLISS IN JANUARY!
I WAS THERE WITH TKA, YOU STARTED TALKING TO ME
ABOUT YOUR SON! I FELT LIKE I'D KNOWN YOU FOREVER!
YOU ARE ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED ,YET SWEETEST
ARTISTS I'VE MET! GOOD LUCK TO YOU, IN LIFE &
WHATEVER YOU CONTINUE TO DO IN MUSIC! A TALENTED
PERSON AS YOURSELF SHOULD ALWAYS BE HEARD! YOUR
FANS WILL ALWAYS BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR YOU!
GOD BLESS YOU & YOUR FAMILY!

Some things are sadly inevitable. May we NEVER forget all that she did for the love of freestyle. Thank you so much Safire...you will never be forgotten!!! 🙂

WOW THAS SAD.. ITS SAD TO SEE THE FREESTYLE ARTIST TURN THEIR BACKS ON FREESTYLE MUSIC..THANK YOU SAFIRE FOR YOUR GREAT WORK AND MUSIC.. GOOD LUCK WITH WHATEVER IT IS U CHOOSE TO DO. MUAHZZZZZZZZZZ

Anyone who knows me knows that Safire is my favorite! I'm not really sad that she is leaving freestyle because I came to terms with that when she was out of the scene for a while. I was excited when Atrevida was released and loved that cd. I enjoyed listening to her in a different style. It's her voice and persona I love so much and that comes through with whatever she sings! I'm excited to see what she has in store for us in the future and want her to reach heights in music not possible if she remained dedicated solely to freestyle. I want the world to be captivated by Safire as I am. As long as Tony and Kenny are involved with her work I am positive that a "freestyle" mix of future releases could be expected. I will continue to listen to all of her cd's, watch the videos and interviews as I've done since she first started and that gives me a great feeling and I can experience that whenever I want. That is her gift to us! I've told her that I will continue to support her with whatever she does. She had me hooked with the first ooh, yeah and no, no, no!!! I love you Safire!

At least she will continue to sing. I hope she does not do R&B music. Too bad she is leaving the dance music scene (at least in Freestyle and House). She was starting to regain exposure. Her hit song "Can you stand the rain" did very well in Chicago.

Thank you and God Bless you and your family Safire. Wishin' u all the best!

Sa-Fire, you will truly be missed in the world of freestyle. I thank you for your hard work and great music, and hope you have much success in whatever you do.

"I make a wish for you, and hope it will come true,
That life will just be kind, to such a gentle mind,
And if you lose your way, think back on yesterday,
Remember me this way, remember me this way."

It is sad to hear this, but we are all so very thankful of the great legacy she left us. I could never get tired of her music whether old or new. Her voice, so beautiful and unique. I'm so glad that it's been captured on 12" records, tapes and CD's to preserve for times when we just need to hear it once again, so that it may uplift us and make us believe in the possibilities of what Freestyle can be and should be. Good luck to you in your future endeavors and keep us posted on your new ones. As we say in Hawaii, Mahalo (Thank you).

I can't believe it. It just hit me I am old. Safire good luck with all your future endevors. You just make sure that you keep making music be it salsa, pop or anything that we can hear your voice. I have been a fan since I was in high school. I am 31 and have four kids. I even wanted to name one of my daughters after you but their father said no. In my heart one of them will always be safire just like you. You are truly una Estrella que nunca se apagara.
