In the Yay!!!!
Ok peeps, here's the situation. I'm a guy from london, england working alongside a couple of producers and a singer here in the bay. We're looking to bring freestyle back but we need your help to do it. I havent been a fan for that long as we didnt really get that music in england but from what i have been told the fans are not really buying the new stuff thats being released. So here's the question that I have to pose.....Why? Why arent you supporting this music genre you all feel so passionate about? Im not dissing you all, Im just trying to understand the situation over here so please dont get offended anyone. I just really got into this music both old and new skool and would like to know why it aint supported by its fan base. Thanks...:whistle

Yeah dude your sooo rite alot of new projects commin lately , but little support from The freestyle community!!! Its a trip!! But I got some great news!!! Peep this!!

I JUST HEARD SOME DOPE ASS FREESTYLE COMMIN THIS SUMMER!! THIS FEMALE CAN SING AND THE BEATS ARE SLAMMIN!!!! THIS CD IS GUARENTEED TO BRING YOU A SMILE < AND BEST OF ALL IT WILL BE OUT IN PERFECT TIME FOR CRUIZING!!! THIS FREESTYLE IS BEING BROUGHT TO YOU BY UNIQE ENTERTAINEMENT AND BAY AREA FREESTYLE PRODUCER SLAMMIN SAM!

Grab a Coke and a smile, make yourself comfortable, and sit and read EVERYTHING @ Clubfreestyle.com and it will give you a clue into the diverging ideas and philosophies of the fans and members of the board.

Freestyle is a very energetic and melodic genre that has a lot of potential but has failed to grow and to reach new listeners as a result of:

1. Reluctance of radio programmers to program a brand of music that is difficult to categorize (too urban for Pop stations, too bubblegummy for urban stations) and that isn't really selling much as a result of:

1. Labels that are reluctant to sign and promote artists of an ill-defined genre (see above). The labels that have enough $$$ and clout to make freestyle move have chosen, instead, to capitalize on licensing overseas tracks and going with mainstream dance.

The labels that ARE bold enough to take a chance may not have the resources to place freestyle in a prominent position within the industry.

2. Quality of the product leaves a bit to be desired. I don't believe that you need a gazillion dollars to make a worthwhile track, but we are competing with recording budgets that are $$$$$$$. As a recording artist, I can't justify spending a lot of $ on a track that I KNOW will not get me anywhere. As a result, quality of the music, arrangement, sound, vocals, etc. suffer.

Oh yeah... Downloading doesn't help much either.

Those are some of my views.

IN every business chance equals risk, but the way I see it, in order to move forward one must not look at the past and dwell on mistakes but rather look forward and create a vision that could enhance this genre.

Such is the case with everything else: I like to have an idea of what it is I'm actually buying before I actually go out and buy it. No, wait. I can't buy it 'cus 75% of the time it's never released or distributed to local music chains. Okay....

Therefore, I'm not going to go out and buy an album, in this case a Freestyle production, that I've never heard before just because there is some sort of spark surrounding it. God only knows I've done that before and I've ended up with crap in my collection. Sad.....

So, with that being said, if it ain't being played on the radio, or in the clubs, or if I can't even hear a clip of the song, then I'm not going to buy it just based on hear-say. Therefore, I'm not supporting.

So, it's all cause and effect. Radio doesn't play it, therefore I know nothing about it.

It's as simple as that.

I totally Feel you on that 100%!!! Ive been riped off sooo many times buying a freestyle CD I knew nothing about. BUT....BUT....If you could listen before you buy that would be cool rite? like 30 second snips of each track on a web site, Thats would us freestylers should do! Maybee it would like increase record sales or something, what do you think??

Exactly. Now, ClubFreestyle is huge.....by why isn't there a listening station on the site that is available to EVERY member? I remember when there was such a thing a few years back.... Maybe even a section to buy music directly through the website.

Bring it back (the listening station). It's necessary and vital to the industry.....or is that only available to VIP members?

Damn. Good Question. Im not a VIP so I dont know, but I thought All the VIP's did have a thing like that, Music sharing and d-loading or something like that.

But yeah, If Like each time a Artists came out with new Material or Old artists w/ new material, and we could peep it and decide if its hot or not....That would be cool. But I know not all Artists and Lables would be down for free snippets though. But with the exception of the music that would be OK with it..................That would be Great.

Forte- I've had the pleasure of communicating with Ashley via e-mail on numerous occasion's and can tell that she is a great person, as well as a dedicated artist. Thank you for informing me on the "new" site, where I was able to hear the new single. I'm familiar with Edwin's (Ramos) work, and as a fan I've been very pleased. As for Ashley, she knows what she's doing- and it's working. 🙂

PS- Next time you want to book something in Boston, let me know. I know a few great venues and I'll happily help with promotions.

old freestyle

i think the new freestyle music today sounds more like house. it doesnt have the same beat it used to have in the 80's. some of it not all. like the new freestyle by "bad boy joe" this songs are pretty good. no matter how it sounds if it says freestyle i am getting it.

There is alot of people who b*tch about FREESTYLE, but they dont support it, they dont buy the CD's online,ETC...Artists release albums and they don't get support, because people dont want to spend money, they believe in burning,etc...which =stealing. No one makes money that way and the artist, eventually disapears from the lack of support.I have put many threads on what FREESTYLE releases have you baught and I get little response, which is sad.In 2002/2003-2004 many FREESTYLE artists had FULL-LENGTH OR MAXI-SINGLE releases SHARYN MACEREN, CHRISTINA MARIE, AYNA, NICK COLON, NU IMAGE,ALVENDIA, NATALISE, MALYSSA, TRU VOICES, ASHLEY, JENNIFER GLASS, JUDY TORRES, INDIA, TKA, SAFIRE, LIL'SUZY, ABY, STEVIE B, ETC..........
WHEN I SAID, WE SHOULD GET RID OF GOSSIP COLUMN AND PUT PLUGS & PROMOTIONS IN THERE INSTEAD,I GOT NO RESPONSE,SINCE THAT COLUMM IS ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THE SITE,IT WILL LET USERS HAVE AN EASIER WAY TO FIND FREESTYLE AND MAYBE THE ARTISTS CAN PUT SAMPLES OF THEIR SONGS SO PEOPLE CAN BUY AND SUPPORT FREESTYLE.BECAUSE MANY B*TCH ABOUT FREESTYLE AND THEIR SUCH HYPOCRITES.
