While many freestyle artists of the past have abandoned freestyle to do different music only (though I don't mind them trying other stuff as well, as long as they don't abandon/dis/or run from freestyle), Stevie B is an artist that I think deserves props for staying true. If you haven't heard his new album, check it out, yes it is freestyle! I think he knows something that some other artists failed to realize... just by leaving freestyle and singing rap, r&b, pop, reggaeton, etc, doesn't mean you're going to automatically score a hit album. In fact other than a fraction of the freestyle artists that have done anything even slightly significant outside of freestyle, how many of them have put out something and failed big time? I mean like selling nothing? Just about everyone! I applaud Stevie B and his camp for continuing with freestyle, I bet his new freestyle album will sell more than any of the other artists albums, before it even makes it to the stores! I stopped by the booths at Arco Arena at the Freestyle Explosion last night and saw the CD's they were selling. Stevie B's CD's looked as though they were flying off the shelfs, and one of the agents selling them had said she had sold a lot of them. When other artists try doing only other types of music and sell nothing, maybe they should think of this... they had lots of fans, fans of their freestyle music. When you abandoned them you lost tons of them. What people like Stevie B and others who have done big in freestyle are doing are catering to the sizeable amount of fans that they already have. Trying to sell the type of music you are known for to thousands of people who are into that music and fans of yours can be a lot better than trying to sell hip hop, r&b, pop, reggaeton, rock, etc to a couple of 12 year olds lucky enough to come across your CD who have never heard of you before. Stevie B selling to the concert-goers is one good way to get things started, they have a plan, better to sell to a potential audience of 8-10,000 at these concerts than have a single CD sitting in a store in a music genre that you were never known for. Now again, nothing against those trying to do other types of music, they have the right to and might create some good stuff, I would even try the occasional non-freestyle song if I was making music, but to those who leave it for good and disassociate themselves from it, well think about it real hard again. Just something I've been meaning to say.
P.S. One of my favorite songs on the new Stevie B album, is the non-freestyle song "Old School Party." Good stuff and getting spins on Rhythm 105.9 as well as some big stations in Arizona and other places.

You think stevie b is the only artist to keep it real as far as freestyle? Then you go on to promote he does non freestyle tracks too but then you criticize other artists for doing it and not selling. what exactly is your point?
stevie b came after freestyle already established itself in new york city and was already on radio. he didn't re-ignite it when it died nor did he do anything spectacular as far as record sales. its funny how even the artists try to seperate themselves from other artists. Sorry i had to speak my mind too. I forget you might be speaking on behalf of the great stevie b. your timing is impeccable too as beatstock nears.
stop this bull already; he's not the greatest nor has he been the truest. hes so true that he sells his autographs and charges for pictures and he doesn't share his microphone with fellow artists who are performing. that's really being true to the game.
Shutup already and learn how to play with the other children in the sandbox for gods sake set an example and stop being part of the problem.

Stevie B has stayed the truest to freestyle more than any other artist that counts. Not many freestyle artists have even come close to reach the level that Stevie B has reached as a freestyle artist also crossing over into the main stream. Stevie B is PURE talent. One of the biggest downfalls that freestyle faced was all these artists that started to release music, calling it freestyle and many of these were recorded from people's homes with very little talent. These songs would flood the market and the record pools and they were pure crap. How many freestyle cds did HOT productions release before they went under? They went from quality freestyle like GT and other to mass producing freestyle for the quick buck and killing it on the way. Stevie B had more record sales and popularity than TKA or any other freestyle act and has had more opportunity to do ther things than the other artists, but he knows that the reason he is still able to tour is because of his fans. He does not forget them. Stevie B does NOT charge for autographs. Yes he sells cd, dvds, etc and if you buy them he will sign it, but if you have something to sign, he will do it at no charge. Stveie B is the only freestyle artist that I spend hours before the concert with fans and signing autographs and taking pics as well as after the concert. You see other artists come out do a song or 2 act like they are pre-madonnas and take off, not helping build their fan base strong.

Where are the true freestyle fans and artists? You guys don't even defend yourselves or know when you're being insulted! lol This is ridiculous.

Stevie B isn't pure talent; he's pure garbage. Stevie B has had more record sales and popularity than any other freestyle act?
How about the covergirls? 5 and a half million records sold to date.
Quote LOL
The Cover Girls record sales have been tremendous, up to date they have sold 5 ½ million records. The Cover Girls have had ten nationally released singles that have charted on Billboard’s HOT 100 Singles chart. They have appeared on every major TV and radio show nationwide. Show Me went platinum in Japan.

LOL; hows that for international and world acclaim! This group made more money back then than stevie b has made in his lifetime! Name 10 stevie b records that have charted on billboards hot 100!

CLUBFREESTYLE FANS/ AND ARTISTS ARE YOU GOING TO LET POSTS LIKE THIS GO UNQUESTIONED? DO YOU GUYS EVEN KNOW THE HISTORY OF THE MUSIC YOU ARE DEFENDING AND INVOLVED WITH? I GUESS YOU AGREE STEVIE B IS THE BIGGEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD FOR FREESTYLE; HE'S THE TRUEST IN THE GAME.

WHAT A DAMN SHAME

Groups like the Cover Girls and Expose are the only groups that I can think of who made it big in the music business...not only were they in the Freestyle scene, but they also went mainstream. As far as I know they've had the biggest fan base throughout the country.

But biddaddydee, I wanted to ask you, what can you tell us about artists like Coro, Judy Torres, Noel, etc.? And what can you tell us about the history of the music we know as Freestyle?

Thanks.

Now I'm starting to believe it because I've heard of people who met him talk about how they were also charged for autographs after paying for the CD. This is why I don't ask artists to sign anything for me. I just meet them, say hi and bye, and that's it. I've came across some music artists, and some of them were shocked that I didn't want their autograph lol.

what can I tell you about coro, noel etc....? you must be upset about my statement. and i am very very sorry if i offended by saying people don't know the history. really i am very sorry for any offense

George Lamond, Corina also stood true to the game, have charted and are internationally well known. George Lamond; columbia records right (a major) what label was stevie on?

Coro; cutting records; discovered by todd terry; incredible voice.
Judy Torres; jackie jack records original label for no reason to cry; later signed to profile records!
Noel; 4th b'way records; used to get 15000 dollars per performance his best records were silent morning, like a child he is also not the basis for this conversation. I think I know a little something about freestyle. But then again maybe you know more and i need to take that into consideration, so once again i apologize.

I just think it's wrong for fan or artist to say they been truer to the game than all of the other hard working artists when all artists contributed in small ways and some in big ways.

This is a funny thread....

Stevie B was probably one of the first if not the very first freestyle artist who abandoned freestyle to try to crossover into pop and r&b! His first cd was a classic no one can take that away from him. After that he came out with ""in my eyes" another cd worthy of mentioning.Stevie B was getting massive airplay and had developed a fan base.So what does he do?Instead of taking freestyle to the next level and opening more doors,he comes out with the pop tart cd "love and emotion".He water down his sound and people in the music industry compared him to a wannabe Bobby Brown. Those who have the cd know what I'm talking about as Stevie B had no business rapping over the breaks of his song.My 7 year old nephew could have rap better.I know other freestyle singers venture out around the same time into pop and r&B but this stread was started to glorify and exxagerate stevie b so the truth needs to be said.

Before Stevie B attempted to crossover he was on the top of his game and was known as one of the leaders of the freestyle sound along with TKA,George Lamond,Cover Girls,Sweet Sensation,Cynthia ,Johnny O and so on after that "love and emotion" he was seen as a fake and loss respect in the music industry and stations that didn't cater to freestyle stop playing his music.Let me add that the only reason that Stevie B went back to freestyle was because he flopped as a pop tart artist and had no choice but go back to the scene that made him in the first place.

Unfortunately, for us hardcore fans he stop caring about the quality of freestyle music he put out and just started putting out countless songs with the planet rock loop.He help put the final nail in the coffin for freestyle music to be taken seriously.Just check all his music before his "funky melody" cd.He never recorded a song that had the planet rock loop after that cd ALL his freestyle records were done with that loop.Obviously he stopped caring about what he put out.Can you blame him? No,because there are people who still buy his music. And in that sense I consider him the King of freestyle.

Freestyle cheese that is!

One more thing. In the tri-state area no one is above TKA.I remember a couple of years ago at beatstock when TKA closed out the freestyle set and more than half of the crowd at the pnc bank arts center left. The closing act was dirty vegas I believed they has the biggest dance hit that year and they couldn't top TKA.Neither will Stevie B.Not in the NY area.We know our freestyle here.

No lol, I am not upset by your statement, in fact I am not upset at all. How can you make an assumption like that? All I did was ask you a question, that's all. Please don't get on me about anything.

Point is, even if he has done other styles of music, (which I was saying all artists have the right to do), he has always come back with freestyle. He hasn't left us. Hasn't abandoned it or tried to distance himself or disassociate himself from freestyle like some other artists.

You think I'm speaking on behalf of Stevie B? :lol
I work in radio, I have nothing to do with Stevie B's camp. I happened to bring him up because I just took a listen to his entire new album, which is filled with freestyle. And no he's not the only one that has stayed true, but again listening to his album inspired me to use him as an example. If I was to buy a new CD from some other old school artist that had freestyle in it, I would have done the same thing. You on the otherhand have just come across as a Stevie B hater. Whether you like him or not, point I wanted to make is he has made a wise business decision. I know lots of other artists have abandoned freestyle, trying to make money in other music. Understandable that people need money to pay the bills. But how many ex-freestyle artists have really made it big by leaving freestyle? A couple. Most have sold hardly anything. Most music artists, whether freestyle or not, have day jobs. So that's not an excuse. I just think it's wise for him and others to cater to the audience that grew up with them, rather than trying to attract some other audience that may have never heard of them before like some 12 year old kid.

Again, whether you like him or not, forget about it and think about what makes sense in terms of coming out with a new CD.

How about you go out and buy the album and be a solution to the problem. One of the biggest problems is freestyle artists leaving us, not coming back with anything. And especially those who leave it and purposely try to disassociate themselves from freestyle or talk sh*t about it. That is a problem.

i'm so sorry. you just happened to finish listening to his new album or old albums and felt compelled to tell us about his brand new cd which by the way isn't only freestyle but he's so important because hes true to freestyle more than anyone else. looks like a shameless plug that should go into the plugs and promotions forum under I'll be at beatstock and you should buy my cd while your there cause i keep it realer than all the other artists that will be performing there.

sorry but as a fan i wont say anyone is truer to freestyle than anyone else. freestyle was never about one artist or who is the fairest in the mirror on the wall.

I agree with you, you have a point. No artist is better or more king and queen, or more truer to the Freestyle genre than anyone else.

Glad to see some people around here finally grew some balls :D

Speak your minds. Don't kiss ass!!! The truth shall set you all free!!!

Out of 12 tracks on the new Stevie B album only 5 are Freestyle. Of those 5 new Freestyle songs only 3 are actually good (the other 2 are tailor-made for the German Freestyle ).

I meant that those 2 tracks sound like something that you would find on ZYX Freestyle, Vol. 37
