How many of you listen to 80's Electro-Funk , R&B, & "Funk N' Roll" by Prince, Rick James or any of their 'prodiges'?

What's your fav song/artists or record in this sound?
Who's your fav "Prince-Girl"?

Let's see, in Prince camp we had:
The Revolution
The Time
(early Janet Jackson stuff (pre "Control")
Vanity / Vanity-6
Apollonia / Apollonia-6
Sheila E.
Sheena Easton
Wendy & Lisa
Ta Mara & The Seen
Carmen Electra
Tevin Campbell
The NPG (New Power Generation)

And produced hot records for other artists, like:
Chaka Khan's "I Feel For You"
& Stevie Nick's "Stand Back", etc.

Rick James camp:

Teena Marie
Brides of Funkenstein
The Mary Jane Girls
The Dazz Band (Love "Hot Spot"!)
Val Young, etc.

Here's sum other oldskool R&B Funk/Electro/Disco artists of the 80's:
Starpoint - (LOVE "Object Of My Desire" - CLASSIC!)
Klymaxx
The Gap Band (my dad got me into them as a kid).
Cameo
Shalamar (Jody Watley)
Kool & The Gang
DeBarge
Five Starr
Grace Jones
Ashford & Simpson
Atlantic Star
The S.O.S. Band - (gotta luv "Just Be Good To Me") 🙂
Cherrelle
New Edition
Evelyn Champagne King - ("Love Come Down" was da JAM!)
The Pointer Sisters
Ready For The World
The Whispers
Melba Moore
Patrice Rushen
Denice Williams
(The list goes on, but u get da picture).

Madonna's earlier stuff, & The first albums by Brenda K. Starr, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, & others all had heavy influences of this music.
Then again, these artists were hott at the same time, & would be played along with Freestyle & Breakdance/Hip-Hop in da clubs back then.

Damn yo, these were good songs. Bring back mad oldskool memories.
So who, or what songs did u like?
(I Like 'em all! - lol) 🙂

VANITY !!!!!!!!!!!!!Love her & her music & acting, miss her-wish she put out a new cd-even if it's gospel.
Vanity -Albums
"Vanity 6"hit songs "Nast Girl","He's So Dull"
"Wild Animal"hit song "Pretty Mess" also, sang in film "The Last Dragon"
"Skin On Skin" hit song "Under The Influence" that song rocks!!
"Action Jackson"sndk songs "Faraway Eye's" + 2 other songs.

I love Vanity because of her Nasty girl track but the one that out does herself is Sheila E. she can play those instruments!

I luv 'em all, (especially Sheila & Vanity).

I can't beleive I forgot my otha jam:
Eddie Murphy & Rick james - "Party All The Time" - lol.
(Yes, I don't care, I love that song!). 🙂

THAT"S ALL ME. I'll be 40 here in a few months and that's all the stuff I grew up with.

I have all the Cameo
DAZZ band
S.O.S. band
Starpoint - (LOVE "Object Of My Desire" - CLASSIC!) BAD AZZZZZ!
The Whispers
Ray, Goodman & Brown - The Moments
The Time - sik
The Mary Jane Girls
The Deele - Babyface & LA Ried when they were kids.

Man all this stuff brings back so many memories.

I still play it when I'm chilling at home in my garage on a hot summer day throwing back some cold ones.

My wife likes the music but not the memories I have. I'm a bit older than her and we're from slightly different eras so when I was rolling during those years she wasn't around, so needless to say she doesn't like to hear the stories when I was rollin with the homies..

helllllllooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yeah company B yeeeaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! :dancingb all of the above!!!!!!! :dancingb

From the Prince camp, definitly Sheila E. Love her.

From Rick James, it's a toss up between Val Young and The Mary Jane Girls.

Here's sum other oldskool R&B Funk/Electro/Disco artists of the 80's:
