I just came across some post that spoke about the controversy of Old Freestyle and New Freestyle Artists.
Just to shift the thoughts a bit, I felt like posting my opinion about this. 😉
First of all, new freestyle exists today because OBVIOUSLY the new freestyle artists were inspired by the old freestyle artists. Don't you think????? It took artists like & MORE, Coro, TKA, Cynthia, Judy Torres, George Lamond, Safire, Fascination, Johnny O, Cheree, Cover Girls, etc.... (just to name a few) to WANT to make these YOUNG, NEW artists come out with a new sound of freestyle. And that's cool. I don't think there's anything wrong with that at all. There is always room for new music and new artists. That's what "differentiates" all generations and their music. But new artists will always be RESPECTED if they remember never to "down" or talk in a negative manner about the "Original Classic Freestyle Legends". I know a lot of these old freestyle artists that respect the music of such artists such as Patti La Belle, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, etc. and think about it, those old school artists didn't sing any kind of Freestyle music. But they were raised with that kind of music. KTU, Latino Mix and whatever other radio stations will always play the old freestyle classics. I feel that its up to the clubs to really push these new school artists out there so that the radio stations will play more of the new freestyle music. Radio Stations are a business that don't like to take the risk of losing ratings or money. So therefore, promoters need to do their thing to get these new artists exposed a bit more so that they can be recognized by the radio stations.
I know that new school freestyle artists will have the support from the old school freestyle "legends" if they always remember where the "Roots" of Freestyle Music originated from. :confused
So peeps, I give props to my old school freestyle legends and to all the upcoming new school freestyle "future legends". 😉
