I remember being a kid (I'm 30 now) and hearing Nocera's "Summertime Summertime" coming from a boom box for the first time. It was here in Queens and it just happened to be a hot day and everyone was hanging by the open fire hydrant. It was a quintessential New York moment.

What ever happened to Nocera? Did she release any other records? She had such a unique voice.

she had lets go, tell u so plus an album that i still have yet to hear. summertime '89 is pretty def too and the todd terry beat tip.

Nocera is in a new group.

"Voice of the Satellites" is the brainchild of Nocera, Gregg Fine and John Roggie.
Their music is an infectious blend of groovy and spiritual "Poptronica".

Nocera is the songwriter and vocalist of the group. She had two hit songs, "Summertime,Summertime" and "Let's Go", both freestyle classics.
Gregg Fine and John Roggie program and produce the music using computers, samplers, synths, drum machines, and live guitars.

"Voice of the Satellites" is currently performing throughout the New York City area with a full seven-piece band including live drummer, percussionist, bassist, and background vocalist.

hmmmmm - it's interesting how she's wiped her bio clean of ANY mention of her past as a freestyle vocalist...

Sorry to dissapoint everyone, Nocera may have done freestyle but it was never her "thing". When "Summertime, Summertime" was originaly conceived it was not as a bouncy dance tune, we all have to thank Mantronik for making it into that. Nocera was always more into a rock/metal like sound, something with a really much harder edge. But, she is like a lot of other freestyle artists who used it as a start, then completely abandon and forget it. Kind of like a really embarrasing first boyfriend or girlfriend. Her album is really good though, I especially like "Over the rainbow" it is a little slower, but nice.

That is interesting about "Summertime" being a rockish tune - I have never heard of Nocera releasing another genre of vocal record before or since the material on "Over The Rainbow", rock or otherwise. She got her deal with Sleeping Bag Records because her boyfriend at the time, Floyd Kaufman, was an executive at the label, and Sleeping Bag was a primarily dance & rap label so that is probably why Mantronik reworked the track.

I think Nocera was a good song writer but since she is carving out a career spinning dance music now, not rock music, I think it is strange that she is hiding her only credible music success which was in dance music - (I don't think a lot of freestyle artists wanted to abandon the music, but you have to do what you have to do to survive - some "freestyle" artists have been unable to succeed in other genres of music, but it does not seem to hurt those trying to be DJ's and producers (Tony Moran is bigger than ever). She's not a superstar DJ and has no impressive spinning or production credits in that bio so you would think revealing she had hit dance records in the 80's would be more of a help to her career.
